So, for the uninitiated (me) how does this step outside of general conversation and into the planning and implementation stage? Also, is there any room for us to offer assistance in some way or does that constitute too many cooks around the pot?

traumkommode traumkommode No, I meant there hasn't been a Smooth Bone Forum Knife. I have an Oily Creek smooth bone 14 myself.

Ha ha:D You can wish on for that stainless, GEC won't do it they're rust merchants ;) No stainless offering from them since 2016:thumbsdown: I've heard it's because stainless being so hard takes a toll on their equipment, frankly I have a very hard time believing that;)

Yeah, I call malarkey. I've ground both their steels. 1095 is easier, but not a whole terrible lot. Both wear the belts down.

I think someone(s) will have to step up and get the party started in terms of laying out the options and starting the selection process. I think the only guys who were willing to do it were Charlie and Barry and even they seemed to be a bit spent after last year's endeavor. Probably requires communication with the proposed manufacturer and then letting us all know the options so we can start deciding what we want from there.

That's what I thought. Well, if there is any simple grunt work that can be done to lighten the load I'd be willing to help.

Seems there's a lot of interest in stainless and some showing interest in a stockman or small stockman pattern. There's another company who produces such a knife, has the capability to produce the quantity needed, and has produced a forum knife before - Buck. Maybe they would be open to doing a 300 in some sort of special covers. I know the Bucks aren't as popular as Case or GEC, but they may be willing to produce a knife with most of the features being asked for.

I would just like to say that I would be very happy for the knife to be a Buck. I like Bucks a lot. It would be very interesting to see if a Buck could be an option, to me at least.

Some cool thoughts.... Or are they dreams?

Anyway.....

1st dream.... Peanut, swedged long pull clip, pen, satin finish, Appaloosa bone, bare head, threaded bolster.

2nd Dream.... Cattle knife with a long pull spear main, sheepsfoot, spey or pen, all satin ground, peachseed jigging

3rd Dream.... Small, pocketable, fixed blade, spear or drop point.... Micarta handles with liners plus a sheath.

4th Dream.... Eureka, long pull spear main, coping secondary, satin blades, smooth ivory bone handles, bare head, rat tail bolster.

I didn't mention steel as I'd be cool with 1095 or 440A.... Or whatever, just put a satin grind instead of a polished finish.

Lol! 7 - 12 pretty much applies to anything high end knife related where the customer has input prior to release.

Its just rough sketch of how it has proceeded in the past.
The thing that i find disappointing most of all is the organisers have always aimed at fairness and the greater good but still some people can't help being negative. Even after they "get told". anyone with half a brain understands the frustration. it has gotten a bit too fractious even for me.
Lurk and Pounce thats my motto.

The knife I own the longest is a 1973 Buck 110. As was said earlier, the more folks that can afford the knife the better. Buck has the heritage and the ability to make anything from a basic 300 series to a customized version. I'm in for whatever works for the majority, but Buck would be great if it could be done.

Buck is already working on a forum knife now for the Buck subforum. I'm not sure if they would be willing to do another for the traditional forum or not, but i'm looking into it.

How about a 66 pattern whittler in desert ironwood?
