I'm coming 'round to this point of view as well. I think JohnDF may be on to something as to why.

Reverse orleans sounds great but I agree, the reverse looks like the shield crowds the center pins. I kind of like how on the normal orleans shield the handle swells opposite the shield, makes for a nice visual contrast.

@waverave page 1 of the above thread has diamond un-x-ld shields. Can you mock one of these up in African Blackwood?

Either look good with Ironwood. I prefer the regular Orleans (top) myself. Thanks for the mock up waverave.


Banner or propeller would still look good too, but looks like a long shot.

I like federal and diamond, but notice that they look best on most knives with end caps.

If it isn't readily apparent which way the shield should be oriented on the knife, perhaps it isn't the right shield for the knife.

Actually, the Federal would be a great choice and would look awesome. I would support a surge for Federal!

Whatever we do, we don't want to end up with a propeller/ironwood combo, that's pretty much the standard SFO configuration for one of GEC's dealers.

Seeing them next to each other, I think I am feeling regular Orleans over reverse now [that should be make for a short but epic future battle/poll.

Good point. I think that's why they use Orleans with acrylic covers.

I feel like the shield vote isn't getting g the attention it deserves. I couldn't agree more with K Kiteman72 I'm still advocating for the bomb personally. You don't see this shield a lot on GEC and it's a very popular shield in the custom community.

Just doing the math, there are still 47 invalid votes. It would be kinda funny if they are all in the Orleans vote.

Without seeing exactly who voted for what, we can't tell if the specific shield votes total higher than the "shield or no shield" tally due to folks incorrectly voting for two specific shields, or simply by not choosing a "shield vs no shield" option.

As I type this there are 299 total votes in the slab poll, and 258 for the specific shield choices of this poll - so it's certainly possible that there are zero to few double votes here.

Ive changed my vote a few times and may be inclined to change it again, if I please. I fixed my double vote last night and am currently sticking with reverse orleans for now, as I liked that with the blackwood. But ironwood is leading now so we will see where it goes. I also like the propeller a lot

I'd be okay if the bomb won. It's long enough to match aesthetically to this larger, bareheaded knife.

Actually banner, bomb, Orleans, propeller would all match well. I'm a bit against the propeller only because it's been done frequently on ironwood in the past. Doesn't make it look bad though.

Diamond and federal are too short for this knife I think.
