Yup - this story firmly swayed me to the "dark dense looking wood" sheepsfoot camp. I too encourage everyone to read the story (and vote accordingly)!https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/the-captains-knife.944997/
Now if you haven’t read Jackknife’s excellent story here, I want y’all to read it and then think about which way you wanna vote.
Well, if you have an exciting, multi-hued wood, it doesn't need a shield of course!
But with a nice deep brown or black wood, it is meant for a shield!! Otherwise you are an artist trying to sell a blank canvas!!

Woa...what...is...that big clip swedgy awesomeness?![]()
Wood options that have not been offered in years will not be available. They probably keep some standard wood in stock. The wood choices that we have seen recently will be the options.
It's coming down to the wire...
I've been tempted by some of the persuasive arguments from the jigged bone camp. I'm not switching from smooth wood yet, but I am considering it. My fear is that if bone wins we will get a huge vote for saw cut and that's NOT what I would like. But if we could get GEC to do a really nice looking jigging and color, then that would really make the knife something special. But jigged bone is the "gamble" vote... Too many opportunities for a bad jigging choice and an unattractive color. I have a few hours to decide.
