After spending the last 42 years working on the latest and greatest I've become a firm believer in KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. Nothing beats ebony with a nice shield for simple and classy.

However if we could be guaranteed the bone or Cocobolo from the last 2 runs of Maher&Grosh I could change my votes.

To me, the jigged bone knives in both of those photos look more appealing than the ebony ones. Just sayin'!

That jigged bone on the Yankee Whittler is great, and that was done pretty recently. I won’t lie, I liked the idea of saw cut bone (y’all are welcome to tar and feather me and run me outta town ;)), but I think my vote would go to that kind of jigging now. (Besides, I wanted saw cut with an end cap like the #77 jack I shared a few times in the previous polls.)

This thread meeds more pictures.
I stated that I like Red Sawcut & Cocobolo.

Anyone on the fence should keep in mind that Charlie has posted that his SFO, apparently also an 86, will be in Ebony. So, unless you would like to have TWO smooth wood versions of the 86, please vote for Jigged Bone so we can have a bit of variety. You Ebony lovers will get it in Charlie’s SFO which I am certain will be excellent!

I have to admit. I enjoy the banter and have spent a stupid amount of time watching, reading and participating in these polls but the vote switching just for the sake of drama is some pretty childish BS. When you do that, whoever you are do you chuckle to yourself as if proud of your little prank that only you will ever know about? Kinda weirdo if you ask me. Carry on!
It does seem like there is some obvious game playing in the voting. I look forward to the last minute scramble this afternoon as people change to their real choices. Maybe we should have an unspecified poll close time, so there would be some risk in playing games on the final day.

Then again, it doesn't really matter I guess, because the majority will speak in the end. Plus, I'm pretty ok with any of the choices.

I thought it was Central Time. Mike works on Central Time but what's an hour between pollers.

And while I'm at it - why were the polls pushed back?
Mike's Central time. When he said the polls would close at 3:56 central it's what he sees on his screen, based on his location. When I look, I'm eastern, I see 4:56.
Mike explained in an earlier post that he'll be with his daughter at a basketball game and won't be around to set up the poll until later. How much later, I don't know.

This I didn't know. I wish I'd known that from the beginning. I'm switching over the jigged bone.

Not to mention one of the normal production runs will almost certainly be in ebony.

I'd want some other smooth wood like Cocobolo or snakewood, over jigged bone, no doubt. But as sure as God's got sandals, if smooth wood is selected, ebony will inevitably be voted the winner.

That SFO will be small and unobtainable for a lot of folks. Certainly no guarantee to get one and no guarantee this one would be ebony either

Thanks Gary. I still run on Zulu Time at times.

Can't think of anything more important than Father/Daughter time.

Agreed that Charlie’s Ebony 86 will be wonderful. Getting one, not on the Secondary?

Signalprick Signalprick Hit the nail on the head.

Let me start by stating I have no dog in this fight. I steer away from things designed by committee as I generally find that they lack cohesive vision….case in point, 2017 Blade Forums TC….take a real beauty and dress her up in a gunny sack…swing and a miss IMHO (if that had been ivory micarta it would have been a jewel).

Now smooth wood can often be lovely but it can also be quite plain. Wood is pedestrian and safe. Unless the wood has an interesting grain or is burled, the covers function in a completely supporting role. Nothing wrong with that, but it is not something you can just stare at and marvel in its beauty.

Jigged bone on the other hand gives you covers that make folks jaws drop open and the saliva to start flowing (drool for you cretins out there). My second case in point, this beauty modified by @glennbad and owned by an Oregonian active in this current debate. Is there a more stunningly lovely lambsfoot out there?

I hear Charlie is doing an ebony SFO, but it is not the 86, although he may be doing another that I am unaware of.

Absolutely wrong, Greg. I am hoping you just missed Charlies post.

Always a 'twist' is right..
No no!! That's not what I meant!!:( AARRRGGGHHHH!!!

Can't win!! There's always a twist!

How can I promote the interests of the Trilateral Ebony Monopoly Consortium without getting all the time schpilkes!!o_O:p:(

It's tough I tell ya!!;)

I'm sure it will be a great knife no matter what !! Just better with nice dark wood!!:D

What gives you this impression? As best as one can tell from this thread, Charlie says his next SFO will be ebony, but does not say it will be this pattern. In fact, I think it's fairly clear from posts #472 and #499 in this thread, as well as charlie's stated hope that the forum knife will be ebony, that he's not doing a SFO of this pattern in ebony.
