I am fortunate in that both would be great for me- just a slight edge for the wood. I might have been swayed to the jigged side if we knew up front the color and pattern of the bone...
Vote for what you want. I doubt saw-cut bone would have a chance if jigged bone is the group choice. Saw-cut is for barlows and most people here won't vote for it unless it is on a barlow. Also, any fears about jigged bone could be applied to wood. The GEC knives I didn't like after receiving them have been wood. Only the ones with good looking grain get posted, the ones with lack-luster looks eventually get sold. It's coming down to the wire...
I've been tempted by some of the persuasive arguments from the jigged bone camp. I'm not switching from smooth wood yet, but I am considering it. My fear is that if bone wins we will get a huge vote for saw cut and that's NOT what I would like. But if we could get GEC to do a really nice looking jigging and color, then that would really make the knife something special. But jigged bone is the "gamble" vote... Too many opportunities for a bad jigging choice and an unattractive color. I have a few hours to decide.
I really don't have a problem with smooth wood. There are a few that I think would be great on this pattern like Cocobollo or Iron Wood. Like others who don't want certain jigging types, I am voting bone because of the overwhelming support of Ebony on the wood side.
If wood wins, hopefully many of the jigged bone voters will pick something other than Ebony for a bit of variety. Since Ebony is represented in many regular production runs.
I disagree with this. I bet a large majority of bone voters desire sawcut and dont give 2 squirts for historical correctness for this knife. They just want a chance at a barehead sawcut knife because they haven't had a chance with one yet and this is their opportunity.Vote for what you want. Now if you want ebony, then ebony is always good from GEC.
I’m with you on that. I did go wood, but hope Cocobolo or ironwood is the winner. If saw cut could be guaranteed to not be an option, I would say jigged. I’m in on this regardless.I really don't have a problem with smooth wood. There are a few that I think would be great on this pattern like Cocobollo or Iron Wood. Trestle pine topper with quilted sapeleWoa...what...is...that big clip swedgy awesomeness?![]()
Have to agree with this John, would not switch to jigged bone because of the risk getting saw cut which is not appropriate for this knife.
