Anyone on the fence should keep in mind that Charlie has posted that his SFO, apparently also an 86, will be in Ebony. So, unless you would like to have TWO smooth wood versions of the 86, please vote for Jigged Bone so we can have a bit of variety. You Ebony lovers will get it in Charlie’s SFO which I am certain will be excellent!

Except the chance of getting Charlie's SFO has pretty much always been slim and none for me, never around when the reservations or drops occur or not fast enough on the keyboard, I'm sticking with wood.

Let me start by stating I have no dog in this fight. I steer away from things designed by committee as I generally find that they lack cohesive vision….case in point, 2017 Blade Forums TC….take a real beauty and dress her up in a gunny sack…swing and a miss IMHO (if that had been ivory micarta it would have been a jewel)..............
The 2017 TC was not designed by committee. Maybe that was before your time here.
It was given a special treatment (Micarta) to differentiate it from every other TC ever made.

Thanks Gary. I still run on Zulu Time at times.

Can't think of anything more important than Father/Daughter time.
I hear you, Ed. 16:38 Z here! I still have flashbacks to Zulu myself and it's been 45 years since I served.

Is there a more stunningly lovely lambsfoot out there?

Only if it's in wood.:D:D

Now smooth wood can often be lovely but it can also be quite plain. Wood is pedestrian and safe. Unless the wood has an interesting grain or is burled, the covers function in a completely supporting role. Nothing wrong with that, but it is not something you can just stare at and marvel in its beauty.

Jigged bone on the other hand gives you covers that make folks jaws drop open and the saliva to start flowing (drool for you cretins out there). My second case in point, this beauty modified by @glennbad and owned by an Oregonian active in this current debate. Is there a more stunningly lovely lambsfoot out there?

Come on, if there’s one thing that is clear from this thread, it’s that we have a cohesive vision! :D

I think we are past the point where we have to worry about an unattractive knife. I know that no matter what a large portion of us chooses, it will be nice. We are traditional knife enthusiasts, and have good (albeit sometimes differing) taste.

I think this knife would look great with ebony, or blackwood, or bloodwood, and most other GEC offerings.

This knife would also look great with just about any pattern of jigged bone, sawcut, smooth bone, etc.

My choice for jigged bone is solely due to the fact that everytime a photo is posted of a random jigged knife, it gets fawned over.

We talk about how great it would be if GEC did more of it. We as a group will have no better time to be heard than right now. We have GEC's full attention. We are in good hands. I'd hate to miss this opportunity.

Charlie stated in post #472 that his next SFO was going to be in Ebony. Mark, I believe that you misread post #499. I realize those emojis are susceptible to different interpretations, but it seems clear to me that he regretted spilling the beans in post #499. Anyone who cares about this should simply re-read numbers 472 and 499 so they can draw their own conclusions. Charlie will probably have more than one SFO this year, but I believe he plans for one of them to the 86 pattern. Charlie can tell us more if he wishes. In any event, we will find out soon enough.

Ramrodmb Ramrodmb , No point in us debating it. Anyone can read the posts.

With all due respect, Greg, it's all right there in the first sentence of post 499 and leaves little open to interpretation. I don't know what emojis have to do with it.
"No no that's not what I meant" seems pretty clear to me.

Plus that's not what Charlie said at all. Charlie didn't identify what pattern he was using. True fact, GEC's mock up shows a shade of brown Jigged bone knife. It's unlikely we will end up with jig bone because if jig bone poll wins it will be a vote for Sawcut. If jig bone does win then it's pretty likely it will have some shade of yellow brown jigging which is what GEC's factory mock up is.

Besides, a vote for smooth wood isn't a given we will end up with ebony. Desert Ironwood, Snakewood, and jobillo are some contenders.

Isn't the 86 going to be a 2 blade knife with a clip main and coping secondary and end caps? How in the heck is that even relevant to this knife other than sharing a similar frame? Good grief.

Except the BF knife isn't an 86 it's just built on a similar frame. I thought you were poopooing on these kind of vote changing tactics Leslie?

Only Jack's ivory one. Dylan's is indeed stunning. But surely the forum knife won't look like that. 4&1/2 hours left....what a quandary!

Not to dogpile, because I believe you've misread something and hey it happens but... getting a CC SFO is not as easy as buying a Hershey's bar. Like all the wood lovers will be drowning in Charlie knives. If only that were the case!

This I didn't know. I wish I'd known that from the beginning. I'm switching over the jigged bone.

Hold it right there partner! It looks like his ebony SFO is not gonna be an 86!

Not to mention one of the normal production runs will almost certainly be in ebony.

I'd want some other smooth wood like Cocobolo or snakewood, over jigged bone, no doubt. But as sure as God's got sandals, if smooth wood is selected, ebony will inevitably be voted the winner.

I think saying that smooth wood will certainly be ebony is a lot like saying that jigged bone is sure to have a weak dye job and crap jigging. It's absurd.
