Not to dogpile, because I believe you've misread something and hey it happens but... getting a CC SFO is not as easy as buying a Hershey's bar. Like all the wood lovers will be drowning in Charlie knives. If only that were the case!

Hold it right there partner! It looks like his ebony SFO is not gonna be an 86!

I think saying that smooth wood will certainly be ebony is a lot like saying that jigged bone is sure to have a weak dye job and crap jigging. It's absurd.
Unfortunately, we’re past logic.

Anyone on the fence should keep in mind that Charlie has posted that his SFO, apparently also an 86, will be in Ebony. So, unless you would like to have TWO smooth wood versions of the 86, please vote for Jigged Bone so we can have a bit of variety. You Ebony lovers will get it in Charlie’s SFO which I am certain will be excellent!
This I didn't know. I wish I'd known that from the beginning. I'm switching over the jigged bone.

No, no, no!! Folks, if I did this, I apologize!! It is not the #86 I am doing!!:p
Bill has allowed me 100 of the #97 Alleghany pattern in African Blackwood (similar to Ebony of course). I have not been allowed an order of #86s as of yet. My #97 SFO will have my shield choice to differentiate it from the regular run.
Please change your votes back to Smooth Wood for the BF knife (please)!!!:)

P.S, If I do get an #86 (doubtfull) it will be jigged bone!!

Requesting a specific color and/or jigging is fair game. The factory ability to reproduce a specific color or jigging may be an entirely different story. This is not one that you get to decide after you see the production pictures coming thru :)

Bumping up

I have to admit. I enjoy the banter and have spent a stupid amount of time watching, reading and participating in these polls but the vote switching just for the sake of drama is some pretty childish BS. When you do that, whoever you are do you chuckle to yourself as if proud of your little prank that only you will ever know about? Kinda weirdo if you ask me. Carry on!
Wow, sorry to upset you so much.

I switched back to jigged bone because I now have more confidence that Mike will/can convince GEC to do the special jigging (once it wins) that our annual forum knife deserves.
I also have confidence in Ebony or Cocobolo looking good, but would rather have a nice traditionally jigged and attractive bone.

Chuckle, chuckle.;)

I just keep picturing a larger version of this, and it would make me happy.

But an ebony version would also make me happy, so... I'm split. I think I'll stick with my original wood vote since both would make me happy and the wood seems like the safer bet. I'm pretty confident that the wood will tick all the boxes for a beautiful knife.
Also sorry to you John, but that ^ is exactly what I dislike about the majority of GEC's jigging, too machined and half assed looking. I mean geez, look at the center line where the pattern overlaps.:rolleyes:
The 2012 Trapper had the same unsightly overlap but worse, they left an uncut line down the center that imo looked horrendous.
Our BladeForums Annual Traditional Forum Knife deserves better than that!

Of course I wouldn't be disappointed if Ebony or Cocobolo won either.:)

You never specified what pattern you were using. You don't need to apologize. People who posted that you did with the intention of swaying votes should.

I've got half a mind just to close the poll, close the thread and go on vacation. Calm down already! It's a freaking knife!
OK, OK Just Kidding! It's a good thing I'm a fairly rational person.
Carry on....

I am not upset and I understand people changing their mind. That wasn't what I was talking about. I think you understand that......right?

Food for thought...number of annual knives by scale material:

Stag (including Elk): 5
Jigged Bone: 3
Wood: 2
Micarta: 2
Mammoth Ivory: 1

Bump, prior forum knives:

Stag (including Elk): 5
Jigged Bone: 3
Wood: 2
Micarta: 2
Mammoth Ivory: 1

I don't have a lot of experience with 'traditional slip-joints' so I waited until yesterday to vote. Reading and looking at the pictures I thought I knew what my choice was. After reading more and seeing other pictures I changed my vote. I did not do it maliciously, or to play with the numbers. I really don't think there will be a poor choice at this point. Even after we've completed the final polling, I believe this will be an exceptional knife!

Wood or Bone, it's going to be great knife, too bad we couldn't have one of each.
I think we are already ahead with the sheepsfoot, Northfield trim, and frame size. :)
Edit : and the bare head is cool too.

I won't go as far as calling your opinion absurd, but with ebony being mentioned 2-3 times as often as any other smooth wood option, I believe saying ebony would be the odds on favorite to win if smooth wood is chosen is a fairly darn safe conjecture.

Hear hear!!!
This dude here has the right frame of mind!

Except the BF knife isn't an 86 it's just built on a similar frame. I thought you were poopooing on these kind of vote changing tactics Leslie?

86 denotes the frame number, the following two digits denote the pattern, last two denote the year. So it is an 86. But it's not going to be an 861219, it'll be an 863119.
