After looking at my great grandfathers old knife I'm changing my vote to African Blackwood. It would be really cool to have a "new" version of the knife that's been passed down to me. Plus the bomb shield will look amazing on a straight black knife with polished bolsters and shield!

Yes so very childish and some are so very sensitive . Don’t know if your post was directed towards me but it sure appears that way . I think the “sensitivity “ in all areas included and not limited to endangered bushes and trees weighs heavily with me as to why I posted what I did .
This poll seems to be shifted towards more of the Rarity Of wood vs what we like . If your going to throw it on the porch then your going to get other views and comments of those that feel differently wether you like it or not .
Call it childish if you will that’s your choice . I find it more comical via my post in response . Start calling folks childish which in turn you insult them is a great way to get a thread locked with there responses . So you can thank your self for that . Probably would be best you step out vs name calling .

I find it HIGHLY unlikely that John was directing his comment at you or even anyone in particular. It just so happened that he posted after you did.

There has been some deliberate antagonism and not so subtle jabs that have been going on throughout most of this thread. Most of it has been very easily ignored. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, they just aren't entitled to everyone liking it.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. I've enjoyed the thread for the most part, the unpleasantness is easily ignored. Vote your tastes, beliefs, heart, mind, soul, etc! Have fun and may the best wood win! :D

I've personally never understood the attraction to black wood handles. I like, uh... wood colored wood... ;)

But seriously, I really do prefer brown woods. If AB wins the day, I will be the one sitting over here hoping and praying that mine is full of brown streaks.

I know Jobillo has no chance, but there is really no other wood that comes close for me on this knife. Out of the front runners, I would have go with Ironwood. I have never been particularly lucky with ironwood, but at least it has a good chance of being brown. I think I got one of the plainest looking Guardian's Ironwood Lambsfoots I have seen pictures of, and that handle still looks just fine to me. If my vote might swing things, I may change my vote to Ironwood (or more preferably Bloodwood if it makes a sudden comeback) but if the vote isn't close I will probably ride my Jobillo boat right to the end. This picture of my lambsfoot is deliberately unenhanced.

I also thought the whaler looked just fine with the brushed finish and ironwood. I adjusted the picture to play up the character a little more than it really looks in real life, but it is fine looking in real life too.

Hmmmm ...time for some Meakociousnessness.
....yawn...
Time for bed...come on off ya go ya sleepy little possum.

My money is on Humans going extinct before African Blackwood trees do.
Can I get in on some of that action? Oh wait there'll be nowhere to spend my winnings....and Ill be extinct..

Let’s have some more poetry.....
:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

Man, what I wouldn't do to be able to have one of these beauties :lol:

But you can have one of those Sir....and may I say what incredibly discerning taste Sir has.
Now...would Sir care to have it trimmed with baby mountain Gorillas fur or the Amur Leopard with New Zealand Black Robin plumage highlights?

I’d like one in Kangaroo skin covers since Kangaroo’s are highly populated in Australia.
I’m all in for saving a tree or bushes but if that doesnt work Desert Ironwood please :D
Might just buy a Subaru to show my sincerity .

Not LumholtzsTree Kangaroos...they're rare.
PM me I might be able to fix you up.

This was written by Paul Mcartney and Jacko....two very great friends*
Ive edited slightly in much the same wsy as Elton did that version of Candle in The Wind for Lady Di....

Ebony and Ironwood,

Now I want everyone to be nice to each other....because I can do this all day long ...so be warned ...I dont discriminate...tree huggers ,chainsaw jockeys....its all the same to me...
Eyes on the Prize.

I think the mods should move the discussion of endangered species into an ‘off topic’ area of the forum (including this post).

I don’t agree that people in these forums don’t care about the environment. I also note that the two rosewood species, and cocobolo, aren’t even in the running! Nor is elephant ivory, or other endangered species.

I would like GEC to engage in some socially responsible practises, such as contributing funding to the replanting of forests - without the awful hullaballoo that normally accompanies such activities. But I note the amount of endangered wood used by GEC in a run is probably less than half of the wood used in some awful bedhead that can be found in a furniture shop in a mall in most cities anywhere in the world. I don’t think GEC has anything to answer for environmentally.

Choosing Jobillo would of course, alleviate these issues.

Meanwhile, I look forward to buying the knives that others forego. I may even scout around for a suitable conservation charity to re-balance any environmental impact of my purchase.

Let’s move this off topic please!!

Some of the manipulative tactics in this thread are outright laughable! I’ve already flip flopped twice and it has nothing to do with the comments. I will say that some of the tactics used by the ironwood crowd are pushing my choice toward blackwood just because. Why oh why?!?

MIND FOCUS TIME

If you don't like Black and want some shine and colour move to the BLOODWOOD side of things:D

Ironwood unpolished, fittings unpolished, sounds like an unfinished effort (keeps costs down though!;)? = :poop:

Plus, they do say Bloodwood darkens over time, so everybody wins ;) Unless you like that rough matte, sorry, scratch finish...

Hopefully NOT!;)

Just say no to knife mutilation:eek: This would be a deal breaker for me and quite a lot of others.....

Fix your own EO notch, I can't fill in the hole left by one;)
I couldn't agree more. I don't care for those notches anyway but could never understand the purpose of them on knives that are already easily pinchable. If you prefer one mod your own otherwise, please NO!

Hopefully YES! With the thicker gauge steel GEC is using for the blade we're going to end up with a thick spring. It's going to be a big hunk of metal to move. Traditionally EO notches has precedence. This knifes great grandfather might of been a WWI Navy knife. Many of those knives had EO notches. I think it not only makes the knife easier to use, but will also look better (for this knife).

Where was that photo of the bloodwood 85 earlier in the polling? Wow! (I definitely could have missed it though - there's been a lot to sort through:))
