Come on voter who want some color in their wood. Switch to Ironwood to sweep the poll in the final days. Come on!!!!

Take a risk! You may get some Ironwood that looks like this! Nothing in life is guaranteed and if it's worth it it's worth the risk. Except black wood being well black.

Side note: what is your ring made of Taylor? It looks cool, rustic.

I'm in no hurry for any more polls. But one that requires new tooling will certainly not be forthcoming.

Thank you for your reply. I asked because I thought this might fit in the provisional poll. I understand why additional tooling or polls is not wanted. In my opinion an EO notch would suit this heavy jack well. It would help shave off a chunk of weight, and make it easier to open due to the more robust springs/blade that this is supposed to have. Maybe GEC is following this thread?

Dear Bill,

Please EO notch the entire run of 86's.

Thank you

Good idea, thanks

Wouldn't it be cool if ironwood wins and the knives looked like this?

Still, I'm staying with African Blackwood, as I don't have (and never have had) a knife with that cover.
That knife is so cool! Plus those covers are top notch!!! Wipes droll off face.

That's the problem with Ironwood. It looks like your ironwood is sweating out some of it's excess iron and rusted your bolster

It's been extended so they could come up with this "Pitiful Pete"

More like Pleasingly Provisioned Paul.:p:)

The polishing of the bolsters and shield still seems weird to me. Basically I get it because GEC makes the rules - period. I get that part, and am good with that, but still seems weird because I got a knife from them recently in ironwood with polished bolsters and steel pins.. oh well, is what it is. Will be happy with whatever we end up with at this point.

If you want polished bolster and shield vote African Blackwood. Ironwood has brushed (not satin) bolster and shield.

I still really like ironwood! I have two SFOs that have beautiful swirled grain patterns. Ironwood reminds of my dad's wooden handled hand tools. That being said, this is a group choice. Whatever the outcome we will still have a unique knife. I looked through my collection and noticed I do not have a knife in blackwood. I do have a couple in ebony. Is there a significant difference in appearance between ebony and blackwood?

I have ironwood and ebony, but no blackwood. The pics I've seen look great.

I have had blackwood, and currently have a couple ebony. I can only speak to what I've owned, but both were very similar.

While both black, ebony might tend to be a bit "warmer" and is more likely to have noticeable brown - even if it's the generally preferred Gabon (or gaboon) ebony.

Blackwood (to me) was a little cooler in shade, and is much less likely to have brown in it.

At least those have been my observations, others may disagree. All this being said, I doubt I could tell the difference without multiple samples of both in front of me, and both look great.
