Having members who vehemently complain about what we manage to offer as we did earlier this year during the selection process, makes a tough problem even less inviting to take up. I hope that does not get repeated in any future endeavors.
I don't think Gary or I want to think deeply about next year at this point.
We aren't even finished with this year's knife.
But I'll say this about the forum knives in general.
It's a tremendous amount of work for somebody, no matter how it is organized.
This year, it's been a $41,094.44 effort.
The fact that there is that much money involved adds greatly to the complexity. The process must be secure.
Putting together an ad hoc team without a dealer member in the mix is not an option. Working with a dealer can place limitations on how and when we collect the money, as it did this year. Dealers are running businesses. They take on a huge headache by helping us and they do not make a profit from it. We have been very fortunate over the years to have dealer members who have stepped forward to help us.

As I know I'm one of the detractors of "the 50" I hope I didn't offend anyone. I did say I know that a few people wouldn't be able to fulfill their orders due to life's problems. Its understandable and frankly expected that a few would be unaccounted for. 50 however is more than a few to drop out.I've read through a lot of the talk about THE 50 and offers to buy the unpaid knives. I also looked through all the communication about the ordering process, etc. and there wasn't a deadline for payment that I could find. That might help.
For what it's worth, I was one of THE 50. When the original link was sent to me I couldn't get the website to accept my order. I just forgot all about it until I got a reminder from one of the mods. I paid immediately after I got the reminder. There was no ill intent, or any other evil thought that a lot of the responses here seem to be accusing others of. Some of you folks might do well not to react with hostility over every damn thing that goes on here. Many of us are not perfect. Stuff happens.
The dealer handling this project needs to be made whole, and if he makes a few bucks along the way, so much the better. And, he has my thanks.
Also, while the dealer may not make profit from the forum knife, surely he would make profit from any other purchase I may make from him as way of thanksIts not profit if I decide to give another person....whoever it might be....a gift.
I might be mistaken but I think it's a strict requirement from Spark that no profit is to be made on any knife with the Bladeforums name on it.
YesIs the one stop knife shop sparks?
