I don't think Gary or I want to think deeply about next year at this point.
We aren't even finished with this year's knife.

But I'll say this about the forum knives in general.
It's a tremendous amount of work for somebody, no matter how it is organized.
This year, it's been a $41,094.44 effort.
The fact that there is that much money involved adds greatly to the complexity. The process must be secure.

Putting together an ad hoc team without a dealer member in the mix is not an option. Working with a dealer can place limitations on how and when we collect the money, as it did this year. Dealers are running businesses. They take on a huge headache by helping us and they do not make a profit from it. We have been very fortunate over the years to have dealer members who have stepped forward to help us.

Having members who vehemently complain about what we manage to offer as we did earlier this year during the selection process, makes a tough problem even less inviting to take up. I hope that does not get repeated in any future endeavors.

Just a thought but it might be nice if some forum members could come together to cover the bladeforums membership fee for the next year for whichever dealer steps forward to help with the forum knife. I think that would be a good gesture which would support both bladeforums and the dealer who helped.
Maybe next year that could be built into the price of the knife?

I've read through a lot of the talk about THE 50 and offers to buy the unpaid knives. I also looked through all the communication about the ordering process, etc. and there wasn't a deadline for payment that I could find. That might help.

For what it's worth, I was one of THE 50. When the original link was sent to me I couldn't get the website to accept my order. I just forgot all about it until I got a reminder from one of the mods. I paid immediately after I got the reminder. There was no ill intent, or any other evil thought that a lot of the responses here seem to be accusing others of. Some of you folks might do well not to react with hostility over every damn thing that goes on here. Many of us are not perfect. Stuff happens.

The dealer handling this project needs to be made whole, and if he makes a few bucks along the way, so much the better. And, he has my thanks.

Well said and spot on, Frank.

I know this is not the thread to discuss the future in but....
I would hate to lose this very cool yearly event.
I as most do know what an amazing job that Mike does with this. I also believe that a persons generosity should not be taken for granted. Has there ever been discussion about ;
1) a fee that goes to the dealer that helps put this together? for example $10 per knife or something like that?
2) has a non refundable deposit been discussed?

I just received my email msg sorry been busy with my kids I sent Frank a msg can I still purchase this knife? Sorry for the delayed reply Frank.

I would just like to express my thanks to all that were involved in this years forum knife. I didn’t sign up for the knife but I am very thankful that I was able to purchase one. This is a great undertaking from all those involved. I hope that the forum knife will continue and however it moves forward I will be great full that those individuals involved are willing to take it on. I will gladly support mike from CK in anyway I can.i firmly believe that’s what makes this forum so great
THANK YOU

OK you can both have the weekend off...I guess I can fend off the vehemsters for you until Monday....at 06.00. But remember! you won't be paid any less if youre late!

I support the idea of adding to the purchase price to cover fees for the work dealers are doing for us.

I also value this forum and it’s community. To have the opportunity to acquire a quality knife exclusive to this forum is special. I believe most of you also feel the same sentiments.

Thanks again to all that made this year’s traditional forum knife possible!

As I know I'm one of the detractors of "the 50" I hope I didn't offend anyone. I did say I know that a few people wouldn't be able to fulfill their orders due to life's problems. Its understandable and frankly expected that a few would be unaccounted for. 50 however is more than a few to drop out. dsutton24 dsutton24 you may have been one of the 50,but your definitely not one I would be upset with. Once you knew what was going on you fulfilled your end of the deal. Furthermore you took the time to explain your situation and defend your position, which I admire. Because I would never have known you was in the initial 50 if you had not said so,takes guts to say "I'm one of the people your mad at and heres why, now what do you have to say?" Well I say if one of my posts offended you, I sincerely apologize. You are another example of why this is such a great forum imo.

I might be mistaken but I think it's a strict requirement from Spark that no profit is to be made on any knife with the Bladeforums name on it.

Not entirely true. If the dealer is The One Stop Knife Shop, it will be for profit. That was the case with the Congress Jack, and it pretty much convinced Spark that these forum knives are more trouble than they are worth. Any profit made using the Blade forums name goes to him.

I am confused about this out of pocket suggestion. When I tried to get in late and buy one of the TC barlow forum knives the price had gone up about $50. Why is the dealer going to be out of pocket if there are unfulfilled preorders? They can still just sell the knives.
