OO has as much character as any of this run. Carried it today, so simply useful.
That's a really great pic!

Nice picture. The Osage Orange do have a lot of character and good looks. Despite having a few different covers of this one I'm by no means less fond of the Osage one in comparison. I love the gold tones in the light.

I've been keeping a close eye on these 29 drops. I'm definitely picking one up but wanted to see how Those stag 29s turn out. Any experienced whittlers out there use knives with stag handles? Not sure if the stag would create hot spots while whittling. I've seen some stag handle scales that had some pretty aggressive ridges on them.
I'm not an "experienced" whittler, but I do whittle some. The blades on this knife are a little long to be used for more detailed whittling. Usually whittling knives are 1.5" or less for most of the detail work. I think the coping blade in particular would be a little hard to use with its extra length unless you were willing to shorten it.

I think you could easily do some fun quick stuff making fire sticks or a little casual whittling, and this would make a great bumming-around-the-woods knife with the punch+blades combo. The stag handles would be fine for this type of use. Especially since the GEC Stag seems to get smoother and smoother each year. For long whittling sessions, I would probably look at a different knife that is more specifically a "whittling knife" rather than a "whittler pattern". Lots of recommendations on those knives in other threads

Trying to decide between a bloodwood (which I have no covers of) or the M&G ebony. I'm limiting myself to only two, so I gotta make a choice.

Anyone get a bloodwood in hand yet? If so, thoughts??

Decisions, decisions...LOL

All I do is whittle envelopes from bills of knife purchases, thus I am a experienced envelope Whittler :D

Picked up this one this afternoon. Maybe not the best one but was just looking to check out quick and knew I wanted a darker one.View attachment 1186490 View attachment 1186491
Looks great !
I was searching for the opposite though as I love olive wood so was looking for a lighter tone like that of olive wood and centered blades of course. But it was tough moving fast when searching !
Just personal preference of course and it was nice being able to look and choose what you like just had to move swiftly lol.

My GEC 29 coffee house on the floor !

I received this message today :
Unfortunately one of our employees dropped several GEC SFO knives on the floor and I do not feel it is the right thing to send them out. Your order has been refunded. Thank you!

Of course, it was the right thing to do for them, but such a hard luck for me.
is someone in the same situation as me ?

I think GEC better put in some overtime to keep their customers happy.

Odd for sure. Why would they be out of their tubes in the first place?

This dealer takes pictures of several of the knives for their site. I think it's not unusual for a dealer to take some out of the tube for pictures and such.

I feel real bad for Austin. That must be rather frustrating, although I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

Shows integrity, although I understand how frustrating it would be if it was your order that was refunded.

We'll probably never know for sure. It is what it is, a shame.

If you know intimately how the factory works, and how dealers work - we can know for sure. But it is a shame that a customer breathes the sigh of relief after an order confirmation - just to get that email. But I am also certain that the dealer is just as sick as the customer in this scenario.
