2019 GEC 29 Humpback/Stockyard Whittler Thread

I though all GEC dealers remove the knives from tubes and juggle them one handed to verify balance is perfect, especially on three blade knives???

I think the inference is that the dealer somehow dropped them, but could be mis-reading it.
Reading back over that, I read it as the manufacture employee dropped the knives but since my brain finally caught up with my eyes, I see that it was probably meant that the employee of the dealer did the goof. Take his lunch cookies away.;)

Dang that sucks. They are doing the right thing, but I feel bad for Austin and anyone that is getting these emails...still not sure why, with a solid color acrylic, they were out of the tubes?

For a small business; Employee = self or family (man I hope it wasn't a spouse or kid) :D
For sure but then again, accidents happen and I think we are all guilty of dropping something in our lives. Take me for example, I am 72 and have only dropped one thing. Now that I said that, I will be gripping my #29 very tightly while knocking on wood.
Opps, how come my nose is growing longer ?

Dang. Tough news to hear for those folks. I'm bummed for them.

I have one of these incoming tomorrow, so it looks like mine wasn't affected. My condolensces go out to those who got Austin's e-mail, however.

This knife drop saga is great. Like the X files (grabs popcorn)

Why are those maher and grosh knives still in stock? I don’t get it. The price is not that much higher, they look great and an extra blade. The knife world works in mysterious ways.

If it had been my knife that was dropped, I sure would have liked the option of receiving the knife with some discount, say at the dealer's cost. Seems better for both the seller and buyer.

I agree, it would be nice to be given the option to purchase knife as a "Blem".

Unless it was dropped with the blades open, and broken, I agree.
A few bolster dings or cover scratches wouldn't bother me on a user. (for some di$count)

I agree as well.

That being said though, I'm not familiar with the policies GEC has in place with dealers in situations like this. I suppose it's possible that they'd rather not have badly scuffed, dented, or cracked knives being sent out even with the customer's consent.

Perhaps they're going back to the factory in an attempt to fix them up, and stamp a 2 on the blades of the survivors.

Just an uneducated guess.

Two knives were dropped and damaged. We inspect every knife to make sure customers receive a perfect knife. -Austin/ Owner (TPK)
Welcome to Blade Forums!

Sorry to hear about this. That's always a worry with a limited release and no holdbacks if there's a misshap someone has no chair when the music stops.

My GEC 29 coffee house on the floor !

I received this message today :
Unfortunately one of our employees dropped several GEC SFO knives on the floor and I do not feel it is the right thing to send them out. Your order has been refunded. Thank you!

Of course, it was the right thing to do for them, but such a hard luck for me.
is someone in the same situation as me ?
Luckily, I did not get one of those notifications but Austin definitely did the right thing. I am pretty sure TPK, like some other dealers, take each knife out of the tube and paper to inspect before shipping out. I doubt that is the action that caused the damage but goes to show the level of effort that Austin and other dealers put into these sales to make sure you don't get a fluke somehow.
Sorry for the bad luck I can imagine that is disappointing. I'm sure you can find another one (let me know if you need help!)

Edit - sorry I see that Austin chimed in :)

At first I was disappointed that there were not enough snakewood's for my reserve but I got a bloodwood instead and I am very happy with it, the wood has a great glow to it that my pics don't show and the walk and talk is the best out of the tube of any of my 29's yet.
