2020 GEC #62 Easy Pocket Congress and Pocket Carver Thread

I feel on the fence about this pattern. I'd really like to see a side by side photo of a #62 with a #35.

My book clearly states "Tortoise Shell Acrylic is quite striking and adds depth to an otherwise two-dimensional aesthetic. Although not for everyone, it is a very inexpensive, and easy to work with, material that looks great on just about any pattern or trim."

I need to check again but pretty sure my book is also telling me to recover one of these Northfield 62's in tortoise shell :D

There are LOTS of tortoise acrylic #86s in the putting together process. Shields in but not all put together or polished etc.

Congress pattern has never been in my EDC rotation but it's definitely a nice collector knife. I'm undecided, I said the same about other patterns, missed out and wish I had one or two of them now. I'll procrastinate longer, I'll keep watching posts and pics.

Texoma Texoma I understand your point but remember this is a VERY different animal from the conventional Congress pattern: two blades not four (and ridiculous blade duplication ;)) One spring not two and a slim knife not a hulk of a roof tile in your pocket :D

They're up for reserve on Mike's @knifeswapper 9
I'm a sucker for faux ivory or anything that resembles it from a distance....french ivory, white paper micarta, smooth white bone, ivory acrylic, etc...I love it all!

I got lucky an managed to score a Jigged Bone and a Unicorn Ivory. I really just got the Ivory because it's been so popular and I saw it was available. I'm sure I'll find a place for it if it's not to my liking lol.:D

Thanks Will for you comments, I do favor this 2 blade combo  over the larger ones

The 62 two blades congress will be welcome but i would like to get a four blades congress for wood whittling. All blades being sheep foot. The reason is that i would sharpen them differently. The mains would be sharpened toothy (for pull cutting), one at 20 degrees inclusive, the other at 25 degrees. The secondaries at 20 and 25 degrees but highly polished (for push cutting). The blades at 20 degrees would be used for soft wood, the ones at 25 degrees for hard wood and for concave cuts. No redundancy there and i have room enough in the pockets of the arborist pants i wear 360 days a year for such a bulky knife.

I will have to buy 2 two blades 62 congress, 2 times 2 are 4.

Dan.

Since I am not a collector, I have absolutely no interest in this upcoming GEC knife. I generally prefer my slip joints to open from the same end as far as the dominant blades are concerned.

They're the same length. I want to see how the shapes compare. The Churchill feels big in my pocket, and I'm wondering if the congress frame would feel less so.

I have found the single spring Congress to be much more pocket friendly than the cigar frame. I am a huge fan of single spring double ended jack style knives. If you like the churchill and like wharncliff's, the 62 is a must try :)

For me and pocket feel, or lack thereof, length and width is less important than thickness and weight. I'd expect it to feel about the same to me as the Churchill. Which disappears into my pockets. Your pockets will vary. :)

Oh yesss, that's one I will be trying to get for sure. Always liked their banana congress, very elegant with sunken joints. This time it's even better – it has a pen blade secondary!

Judging by how Will talked about it, if memory serves, I am shocked they're using it again. But happy!

Charlie, the #13 had both of my most hated issues (blade rap and proud tips) on all 3 that I got. Do you know if the #62 is less likely to have such issues?

Also, that stone is super cool. Is it carved, or natural?
Sorry it took me so long Logan!!
I have neither of those problems with my #62!
The stone is "natural"; hard to believe until you CF and CE it!!:)
