Received mine, and love the look of it. The figuring is out of this world. Gave it a little sheen and it absolutely pops - incredible stuff.

Agreed. The dull finish on the wood does not do it any favors. imoThe Ironwood was actually pretty poorly finished on mine and most that I've seen. I think it's because of the satin shield and bolster - they didn't really get polished. The wood needs to be polished up and then it will pop.
I'd still like to see it!My ironwood came Friday and has no discernible grain unless inspected very closely, I was honestly a little confused when I first unwrapped it as it appeared to be Blackwood or ebony. It’s 100% black on both sides, so I guess atleast it’s matched. I know some will say I shouldn’t complain as many would love the chance at one, but it does sting a little seeing all the fantastic ironwood that was out there. Rant over, on to the 19s....
Someone here can probably clarify, but I’ve read that ironwood is exceptionally brittle so that could be a reason it was processed / finished less intensely than other woods for example. Not sure, but my two centsThe Ironwood was actually pretty poorly finished on mine and most that I've seen. I think it's because of the satin shield and bolster - they didn't really get polished. Does anyone use renwax on their wood handled knives? What’s the best way to protect and polish up the wood?
I picked one up from KSF, where they listed knives individually. They had around 25 I think, and there were 7-8 that were solid black. I'd say there are a healthy number of those out there. My ironwood came Friday and has no discernible grain unless inspected very closely, I was honestly a little confused when I first unwrapped it as it appeared to be Blackwood or ebony. I’m a big ironwood fan and have it on 50 of my Bark River, Lon Humphrey, and LT Wright fixed blades. It’s the strongest of woods and has plenty of natural oils so it doesn’t need to be stabilized for a knife handle. However, burls are more brittle and susceptible to cracking. Generally, the straighter the grain the stronger it is. It’s beautiful when polished up, but I still think it wasn’t polished on the 74’s because of the satin finish on the shield. Polished wood=polished shield, which would mean polished bolster. Mine will be getting polished.Someone here can probably clarify, but I’ve read that ironwood is exceptionally brittle so that could be a reason it was processed / finished less intensely than other woods for example.
