2021 #85 Crown Lifter

The spring on my caplifter is very very strong, I’m leaving it half open for a bit to see if I can improve it, tough to open even with the main blade open.

Even after flushing mine with oil it is still impossible to open without minutes of dicking around with it to apply the right force. I had to pour a spoonful of mineral oil on it to get it open the second time. Going to try the spring stretching method next.

I’m just gonna use it as an excuse to drink more bourbon. As if I needed one.

Some of this is the geometry coupled with a stiff spring. It is a short blade and the nail knick is very low to the frame. It all adds to the situation. Mine is not an issue for me, however everyone is different and every knife is different.

I was surprised to see how much longer the 15 cap lifter blade is compared to the 85. I always think of the 85 of being a lot bigger frame i guess.

I'm sure these are well made knives, but I do not get the fascination with GEC knives having gizmos like bottle cap openers, etc. I think SAK already has that pretty well covered.
I'm not a big fan of cap lifters either, but...
SAKs are pretty generic, seen one seen em all, but very well made knives.
GECs are all hand made in a traditional manner and have a lot of personality.
So, if cap lifters are your thing, I can see the desire to own one built by GEC.

I love cherry cola. :)

“C-O-L-A, cola.” :D

Conveniently, GEC used covers on this run that work with both versions of the lyrics: the dead skunk for the original Coca-Cola lyric, and the cherry bone for the edited “cherry cola” version (the BBC wouldn’t air the original version of the song because they said it violated their policy against product placement). I don’t normally name my knives, but if I’m lucky enough to get one of these (no luck so far, but I’m hoping to grab a dead skunk), I think I’ll call it “Lola.” :D

Fair points.
However, I do think a lot of hands are involved in making an SAK, too.

Some people like GEC, some people like SAK. I'm fairly certain there is room in the cap lifter business for both to exist. We're not dealing with the mystery of DB Cooper here, people like different things.

"the cap lifter business" LOL!

PS - I like both GEC and SAK. And Lionsteel. And S&M and Canal Street (RIP). And even the occasional Case and Buck. I'm like a unitarian universalist for knives.

Oh man. I’m on backup at CK for a bone... I really hope I score one of those beauties!

I dunno, now I am thinking the Cherry Colas are the pick of this run, if the bone is consistently that shade o' red. If I don't snag one, I may be looking to trade my canvas for one.
