2021 #85 Crown Lifter

Not to be a downer.... But that example was most certainly "cherry-picked" (pun absolutely intended). I'd be willing to bet some coinage that their display model is not representative of them all.

I'd love to be wrong though, that bone is really nice looking.

Again I don't know.... I'm cautiously optimistic they've gotten it right. None of the in-progress photos show a single one that I'd scoff at as being too pink.

There are a few with pinkier hues.

There is a picture in "What's Happening" on GEC site that shows 19 of the cherry bone 85s, and they all look pretty similar to what was shown as the display model. They all appear to be pretty dark red with light pink/white around the edges.

Edit: JTB's 3rd pic down is the one I was referring to.

I do think that regardless of the pink and whites that will be showing through, they are still going to be very attractive. I am a bit more accepting with natural bone - the inconsistencies lend to its appeal. The Blood Red Jigged that I had from the last run though was disappointing - it looked like a strawberry.

I do not doubt that there will be plenty that match the display model. I am just asserting that they all won't be like that and folks should be prepared for that inevitability. I am not trying to rain on anyone's party - I've just been in that place too many times where I expected one thing and received the opposite.

haha you definitely caught me in the last phase of the GEC acquisition process, which i like to call the "defensive stage." This is the stage where I lurk the thread of the current model that I am reserved to purchase, but the invoice has yet to come. During these trying times, I study all of the pictures and get mad at people who point out any deficiencies. It is all in good fun! I hope you end up getting one, and it is the reddest of the bunch! Cheers

Yep. The irritation I felt at my Ironwood #74 arriving with such dark, irregular, mismatched covers after a bunch of the first folks posting up theirs with beautiful coloration, grain, and some even having bookmatching patterns, is still fresh in my mind.

Yep; add me to the group of buyers who received comically mismatched Ironwood #74 covers. I would have loved matching dark. I would have loved matching light. What I got looks like a circus tent, I'm sad to say.

If the bone spring is lighter and more forgiving than the micarta I would totally go for bone.

Caplifter battle!

I bet they both will open my bottles of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout.

I have to admit I get a kick out of the name "Crown Lifter." I've grown tomatoes for many years, all heritage varieties, and one of the most popular is called "Mortgage Lifter" because it is so big and tastes so good that the man who first bred them in the Great Depression sold so many seeds for them that he was able to pay off his mortgage.
