2021 BF Forum knife vs. Facebook & Flippers

I can’t believe that some of our members are so upset about all this. In the end it is just a knife, a nice one, but still, many more knives will follow from GEC. There is nothing “serious” about all this, just another day in our imperfect world where a few selfish people try and take things they don’t deserve.

I don’t like Facebook or Instagram, mainly a bunch of narcissistic jerks, but it feels like some members are really going overboard.

gunstockjack gunstockjack is a great dealer and valued member, and he has spent a lot of time and effort to bring us this knife from GEC. It is flabbergasting that anyone would say anything negative about Barry or the forum mods related to this 2021 knife.

Was the process perfect? No, but that just means we can work as a community to do better next time. Maybe the most vocal of you will sit on an ad hoc vetting committee next year.

Those of you saying “this is the last forum knife” or things like that are really disappointing and with your harsh posts potentially creating the very circumstances you pretend you want to avoid.

What dealer would volunteer for this abuse next year? What have each of you done to bring something positive to the annual forum knife?

I urge you all to focus on positive change and let go of what has already passed.

He is a non-supporting dealer who is also a known GEC flipper on eBay. He outright refused help from the mods regarding the vetting and is now trying to blame them ...it is flabbergasting that you are defending him while ignoring the fact that he caused this debacle.

All of you lodging attacks on the volunteer dealer and the mods are making a terrible error in judgment, lacking in humility and compassion, and manifesting a very clear message that you don’t give a sh!t about the people here just your stupid knives.
You keep saying this, the only person attacking the mods is Barry and he is the one that refused their help and bungled the sale. The fact that I DO care about the people here is why I am so upset that random facebookers and youtubers were able to buy the knife when they shouldn't have been.

Hey, man. I said I didn't think he was maliciously profiteering.
A number of members saw it coming and raised questions about the vetting/buying process ahead of time and were told to quiet down and "trust the process" It's hard to resist an "I told you so" or two.
Do you think discussion of what went wrong is what's making future Forum knives unlikely?

Can you quote a post, I've yet to see the bold.
Maybe the most vocal of you will sit on an ad hoc vetting committee next year.
While I doubt there's going to be a next year, I'm sure those vocal ones would be more than willing to set on a vetting committee.

“Do you think discussion of what went wrong is what's making future Forum knives unlikely?”

This has gone way, way, way beyond what is appropriate, and the accusations, harsh comments, and stuff like that are not serving your interests. And yes, I do believe that many here are treating this annual forum knife like a Constitutional right and demanding due process and equal protection of the law and blah blah blah, when in truth we are lucky that this knife was even created. Not singling anyone out, so don’t take this as personal to any member, EVERY YEAR THE ANNUAL FORUM KNIFE IS ON THE RAZORS EDGE OF NOT HAPPENING and the direction this keeps traveling is going to be off the edge of the map and once it’s dead it is not coming back.

No one posting in this thread has a surplus of wisdom or humility, myself included.

You have a very inaccurate interpretation of what has transpired. I suggest review the relevant threads paying special attention to what the mods have said.

The reason a forum knife isn't likely in the future is because of the actions of this "dealer".

I don’t have a real issue with you, but quite frankly this is all handwringing apologist nonsense. Like, I’d be actually embarrassed if I’d posted some apologist nonsense like this.

This is flat out Porch apologist BS, candidly speaking.

I have to say that the energy you’re using to defend a deadbeat is tremendous, and tremendously entertaining.

I'm just a rando lurker, but I've been following this and it sure looks like a mess. Correct me if I'm wrong:

The discount code was posted openly in the forum;

No vetting of any kind was actually done;

An offer of help with vetting from Supermods wasn't acknowledged or accepted;

Several Supermods have expressed displeasure with how this all went down;

The dealer handling the knives doesn't pay for a dealer membership here;

The dealer handling the knives has a history of selling GEC products at an upcharge;

And he very recently posted some forum knives on his own site for three times what they originally cost, possibly with a discount code (different from the original code).

This smells.

Cannot verify the last sentence, but I believe that at least six of the previous seven sentences are basically correct. I believe it is possible that some vetting was actually done, but I don't know for sure.

I’ll only address the last line. The different code part is true. I missed out on the original order chance due to not having internet due to hurricane ida. I followed the instructions posted here, emailed him and explained, and gave my name here. Some time later, I got an email with the new code. That part, from my perspective as a member who missed out and followed the instructions, worked well for me and seemed on the up and up. The email did not say anything about hurrying cause they was available to anyway, as was the rumor floating around a bit here.

You were able to buy a forum knife with a new discount code for less than $299 from that website post? That's good news! There was mention of maybe a new discount code, but I hadn't seen anyone actually having or using the code yet until now.

Yessir. And I know of at least one other. That’s why I posted, to prevent misinformation from becoming rampant. There’s enough of that in the mainstream media. Don’t need it here lol

.......this seems to sum it up in a nutshell. I am not a "traditional" knife guy so I don't get caught in the GEC hysteria but it seems like the who reason that this process occurred (to give those regulars a forum knife opportunity) was well lost in the ham-fisted manner it was all rolled out. I do feel for those members more invested in this as it does seem to have been an avoidable cluster.
