2021 GEC 83 Tascosa Lock Back

I'm kind of shocked that I just stumbled on one of these since I missed the pre-orders and can't imagine these being available for longer than a few minutes. Still kicking myself for letting my #99 go and am looking forward to another small lockback with wood covers.

This showed up today and I really like it, size was a pleasant surprise. Typical high quality GEC fit and finish, minimal up and down play and a small amount of gap at the top of the shield. If I could change anything I would get it without the shield to show off the wood and I’m not sure what’s up with gap under the spring? Necessary? Oversight? Anyway really nice knife. Pictured with the 15 I used to open the box it came in which incidentally showed up out of the blue one day courtesy of wickettedge wickettedge …lot of good people on the porch.

My 83 also has the gap under the spring........ I think the eyebrow on the handle could have been shallower to cover the gap......

The bocote is looking terrific! Do previous runs of the 83 have the visible gap between the lock spring and the bottom of the cutout?

Not sure about the previous 83 run, but it seems common for GEC lock backs to have the gap. My GEC 72 has it.

I’ve got a F&F99 that has no gap either. Kinda surprised this knife has one considering how well made the rest is. Glad to have it though!

It's kind of hard to tell if the 2015 versions had the gap. Here's a pic.

Does this photo answer your question? On the right is 2015 83 I have carried for a few years, on the left 2021 83. Not a perfectly square angle, just leaned against each other for this pic. There has to be room for the lock spring to move, so they both have a small gap. Never noticed before taking this pic for your question but close examination shows the 2021 spring to be slightly longer, it follows the curvature on the end before the gap. While the gap on my example is larger on the 2021, the longer spring is probably an improvement as it will likely be less prone to clogging with crud.

Crescent and long pull in the closed position. Prefer the long pull, more accessible. You can see how much closer the crescent is to the handle than the long pull and prefer it's aesthetics.

I was interpreting it as this gap which looks like the lock spring is not wide enough where the curved cutout for lock is located.
