Agreed... the color, lined bolsters, and shield really make it special.I don’t usually get excited about lock backs but that is beautiful!
Beautiful wood grain on your exampleThis being my first 83, I was surprised by the size of this knife. But it is very nice in the hand and I like everything about it - lockback works well, tight blade, great covers, I even like the lanyard hole, fine quality by GEC IMHO.

Beautiful example ! Lockbacks are hit or miss as far as side to side and or up and down play. I agree that if it’s minimal it won’t be a issue. I’ve learned to just accept it as part of that design but with that being said as of recently I’ve acquired a few that had no play in any direction that locked up as solid as a vault. That did make me raise a eye brawlAfter taking the scenic route, first 83 from this run arrived. Impressive ... zero perceptible side-to-side blade play locked and minimum up and down blade play, just enough so the lock isn't sticky. It "clicks" into place locked, vs my well worn previous run user that "clunks" and has more play in all directions. It's not a fixed blade ... have owned a dozen GEC lockbacks and none are "bank vaults". Have come to the realization they don't need to be. Their locks are more than adequate to give me confidence to use it hard if necessary. Size is great, hides in the pocket. Have carried an 83 for a couple years and it will cut pretty much anything I need to cut. Prefer the long pull vs cresent pull. With the handle shape, the cresent is closer to the hump so the long pull is more accessible. As a lockback with a well designed cam / spring delivering a light pull (2?) and secure closure, nick location is really not an issue as it's still easy to open. Blade centered closed. Still my opinion GEC shields recently have been too close to the center pin in the center and too far from the metal pin closest to the bolster. Spacing would be correct if you only used the pins holding on the covers and discounted the presence of the center pin but reality is the center pin is there and should have weight in the shield placement. The fit and finish are excellent, high polished bolster / shield looks great. Will hold up well in use and easy to replicate. Nothing to indicate the Bocote is stabilized, meaning it will turn dark from oils if you use it, just like coco 83 in pic 4. Am happy to get another 83 for a backup and looking forward to the rest of this run. Ya'll with extra 83s, I'm your huckleberry. Sorry about the whisker visible in the lock, had just trimmed my beard and not going to clone it out. Get one if you can, put it in your pocket. Great job GEC ... made in the USA!

If you don't have one reserved, and you don't own a quantum computer... your best bet is eBayWhere can I buy the jigged bone one?
Ive seen them on Facebook groups for sale, you could join some of those. Also if you check all the online stores every five minutes, some more could pop up. You could also write a polite email to the stores asking if they will let you know if that specific 83 becomes available.i'm sorry to ask what i'm guessing is an inherently pointless question, but there is zero chance of getting one of the bocote 83s somewhere other than ebay at this point, or waiting another 5? 8? years for a wood 83 to come out, yeah? only found out about this recently, and it's the knife i've been looking for essentially a year to get for my brother, without knowing it. the tragedy is grecian in proportion. someone blot my tears and tell me it'll be ok
