2022 Ben Hogan #65 thread

Yeah kinda, Randy Bell over on the Facebook group responded to my comment in which I thought that this 65 may be a filler run while the shop is working on rendezvous knives. His response was “this is no filler run” then quoted the great rock band BTO saying “you ain’t seen nothin’ yet”.
I should have been clear that I was just speaking for myself and the mouse in my pocket. 😁

I would love to see some stag and a fancy acrylic.

Wonder if the 65 is going to be the rendezvous knife and maybe that's why no production pics?

“During the oil boom days in Oil City, Ben and a lady, French Kate, set up the country’s first gambling riverboat in the middle of the Allegheny River near Parker,” said Burkett. “Being in the middle of the Allegheny River, the sheriffs of Clarion, Armstrong, or Butler Counties could not get to him as far as arresting him. He simply moved his boat into another county if he heard they were coming.”

“During the oil boom, fortunes could be made overnight, and this attracted a criminal element to Parker. One notable character of those days is Ben Hogan. He was a prizefighter, bounty jumper, and blockade runner during the Civil War. He bought several flatboats and moored them in front of the town. On one, he kept a saloon and gambling joint. On another, he promoted a series of weekly prizefights, and on the third, he kept ‘filled with women of evil character and great physical attractiveness.”

‘Hogan’s Floating Palace of Pleasure’ had special entertainment particularly at 5:00 p.m. every day. It was mandatory ‘Bath Time’ in the river for the girls, and Hogan turned it into a hit feature. Men paid well for deck chairs positioned to allow a good view of the proceedings. There were also some hands-on interludes when, for two bucks, a gentleman could jump into the river and assist the bare bathers.”

Thank you for the history!

Has GEC ever done stainless and carbon in the same run of a pattern?

If there are more 65 variations, will they all be stainless? I would like to see some carbon.

That little write up has me ready to chase some Ben Hogans!
I concur! 🤣

I would love to see a good quality acrylic used, just please no more like that last acrylic run with seams running through every piece
Even tho I still liked the Dead Skunk on those, I totally agree, we shouldn't see seams like that.

Stainless and acrylic are a good match, I think!

I’m on the newer end of GEC, and have only handled a glitter gold acrylic and the aforementioned 49/94 acrylics. It would be cool to have some acrylics in the cut that didn't have as bad of issues. Still rooting for bone or stag though

I’ve been excited about the Ben hogans since I first saw pictures of them posted on the forums from years ago. I would actually prefer a darker wood with these, or a nice neutral color bone. The stainless is fine- I usually prefer carbon but for this particular knife I would love stainless. But, without blade patina I think the knife has to have some element that will age/patina in use. At least if they’re gonna keep their corner share of the instagram market😉

If we are super lucky GEC will make some with fancy acrylic or dark wood covers, and big shield engraved with POP for Palace of Pleasure 😁

does this pattern have a half stop?
The stainless currently in production will have half stops. Supposedly there is other variations too, but have yet to see anything confirmed. I'm guessing GEC is wrapping up the rendezvous knives and getting ready for a bunch more visitors than usual... hopefully that wraps up soon and we can get some updates.

While we are waiting for an update on the 2022 Hogans, here’s a SFA from 2015, 1 of 2 in Burnt Orange that arrived yesterday. Parts are from 2011. The book arrived today from the UK about the life and times of Ben…looking forward to the read.DC7E2CF6-8F48-4654-A297-1EB91B74F46E.jpeg
