2022 Case Vault - Small Swell Center Jack

I sent a knife into Case to fix some blade play. They fixed the play but caused a new problem; knife wouldn't snap closed on it's own without me pushing it down the rest of the way. They never responded to subsequent emails regarding the issue.
That kind of thing can really sour you on a brand. I had a similar thing happen with Ruger several years ago. Never bought another Ruger.

I don't know when this was, but you might try to contact Case again. I contacted them about fixing excessive vertical play on a Trapperlock just before covid hit big time and everything shut down. About 7 months later I got an email from them apologizing and saying they had a record of me contacting them, but couldn't retrieve the message and didn't know what it was about. I never have contacted them about again, but IIRC Pennsylvania abruptly almost completely shut them down. If your correspondence was during this period, you might try again. Things got real screwed up there for a while.

that's why I figure it's just best to leave a knife alone.
I was obsessed once and corrected blade play I never would have noticed, and it lost most of it's snap which I couldn't help but notice.

I'm not sure if I still have the knife or not.

I've gotten fairly decent at tapping bolsters and tightening them up.
The secret is light tapping and checking often, that'll keep them from getting too tight.
I've done it successfully, but have had knives that seemed like they just wouldn't have it fanc my only choices were blade play or no snap.

I even notched a feeler gauge one time to still end up loosing the blades snap, but I guess that's just what you get on a knife that doesn't have the strongest snap to begin with.

The Black Micarta arrived today. Only whining on this one is the spring for the secondary is very slightly proud when open. Flush when closed. Nice knife for the money.

I really like the looks of it in burlap micarta and carbon steel. Interestingly if u look at the website the above pic came from, the second preview picture of the pile side, the pen blade says SS..

Okay, I couldn't resist the novelty of this Carbon/Stainless Frankenknife... I ordered one. 😁
I hope you’re not disappointed if you find out this carbon/stainless hybrid is probably just loads of conflicting misinformation!

I'll wait for the findings of your investigation before I order one up. Strange, I'm kind of hoping for a carbon clip and stainless pen. Similar to how some 6318s got carbon blades and stainless punches
I hope for y’all’s sake I’m wrong- because it would be sweet to have a half/half knife. But I think they might photoshop the mock-ups before they have them in hand? I seem to remember that discussion here before, that sometimes they draw up a knife before actually having it, then use that as the ad images.

On the other hand, it’s pretty late in the year, it’s definitely reasonable that they would have enough extra blades to throw some new combos together for these later runs!

I've wondered about this, because SMKW's images often have a Photoshopped feel to them.
