2022 Case Vault - Small Swell Center Jack

I updated pics of the Babnana Bunch, so I grabbed a couple more of the yellow Jack. In hand, and with a Pen and Pocket Hunter.

Oh yeah. The Blue Cleaner stuff arrived.

I had already cleaned most of the gunk out with mineral oil, so nothing to really report on how well it works.

And, IMHO, it smells like toilet bowl cleaner. 🤨

Today I received my copy of the Swell Center Jack in Yellow Synthetic ...... I was very pleased overall....

Fit and finish is nice..... No proud tips, gaps, blade rub/rap or other nasties.... Main blade is off center but isn't touching the liner.....Pen blade is dead center..... Pivot pin is visible on both bolsters...... Both backsprings are almost flush in all 3 positions........ Action is smooth on both blades.....

The blades arrived with heavy burrs which I removed with a strop..... Afterwards they test cut paper with ease.....

This is one of the nicest Case knives I've recently received...... I hope it is indicative of future offerings from our friends in Bradford, Pa....

package in the mailbox today. Overall happy with it, the pen blade just clears a .001 shim off the liner which I can live with. Gave it a cursory flushing but it will need more attention sometime this weekend. The snap shut is strong on both blades but opening is lazy on the main, I think it will flush out with some more time. Definitely smaller than I'm used to, I like 3.5-4" slipjoints but gonna give this knife some time and we'll see if I will like carrying it.

I apparently never checked the small blade for play. It has a good amount of side to side play. The main blade has no side to side play.

Will Case do anything if I send it back? I sent in a Sodbuster Jr for play years ago. They didn’t do shit, just sharpened it, and sent it back.

Kinda sad, since I’m used to $25 Victorinox knives having no play.

Since both blades pivot on the same end, it is tough to tighten one without binding the other..... If you want Case to look at it you need to call them and get a return authorization...... Or, tell your dealer you're not happy and you want a replacement....

Or just add a little oil in the pivot and she’ll be snug as a bug in a rug ;)

I'd just keep it, you probably would have never noticed if it wasn't something the internet told you to check for.

Well, I went against recommendations and decided to try my luck in a vise. I put cardboard around the knife and I smashed it down pretty good on the pivot end. I got lucky. No more play, and I can see the pin just a tad.

Used some 1000 grit sandpaper dry and wet, then I went to a buffing wheel.

Shit looks good as new, and there is now no blade play.

I sent a knife into Case to fix some blade play. They fixed the play but caused a new problem; knife wouldn't snap closed on it's own without me pushing it down the rest of the way. They never responded to subsequent emails regarding the issue.

Sounds like they over-tightened the bolsters... bummer that they haven't responded to you.
