2022 GEC Bayou Trapper #88 Thread

I've become a big fan of the 88 -- started off with Desert Ironwood, added a Gator, and then added the Ace. But, try as I might, I couldn't quite warm up to the Gator that I had landed. The black-ish covers, with patches of green by the bolsters, were certainly beautiful. But, the more I looked at photos of various Gator versions, the more I became convinced that Swamp Green Jigged Bone should have the color of -- well, Swamp Green. ;)

So, although I've never done this before, I plunged into the swamp a second time. Couldn't be more pleased with this one, and it is a keeper for sure. :)

T. Erdelyi T. Erdelyi Glad to see you around. Here is a link to all the latest on the BF 2022. Thanks to Charlie @wayorth and Bill Howard we've got something new without all the acrimony that seems to have built up the last few years. A 3.5" two blade bunny knife. A take it or leave it proposition that many find appealing.

I’d like an honest answer here, not one clouded by passionate ownership (which may be fueled by illogical reasoning) … are the 88s ever comfortable in hand with use? I passed on these because it doesn’t seem so, the curve of the frame does nothing to fit hand as it never comes close to matching either blade spine….seems like a hot spot waiting to happen BUT I do like the looks of these and for some reason I keep thinking about buying one (see above about illogical reasoning). Thanks.

I don't see it as a problem. When using the knife, the unopened blade nestles amoungst the folds of your fingers and the curve of the frame (the sowbelly) rests against the palm of your hand and the pad of your thumb. For me anyway, I'm not even aware of the unopened blade or sowbelly when using one of the #88s unless I consciously think about it.

I've only put it to light use like cutting a sandwich and opening a box or two. I really can't call it comfortable in use. I mean, it's acceptable, certainly not painful to hold, but it doesn't have that nice "fits the hand" feeling like my favorite pocketknives. I've considered passing it on to someone who might enjoy it more, but haven't decided yet. It's just so cool looking! 😁
