2023 GEC Cody Scout #721123LB

Even though I have a Sienna on the way l, I'm still on the lookout for a burlap or a Che Chen.

Now I have to add chicken nuggies and horse nuggies to the list.

Great looking bone on this one.

I ordered a Rosewood 72 today. I like the deep red tones I’ve seen in these so far. If GEC hadn’t used the cloud/keyhole shield on all of the recent Che Chen releases, people may not have griped about the wood. They seem to use that particular shield on a lot of the Northfield wood-cover releases…maybe time to add a new badge to the group.

The #47 Northfield Harvester in Che Chen from earlier this year got the houndstooth shield.

First GEC knives I have picked up this year. Super solid. I really like the bone handles. Probably gonna keep it over the burlap. Great springs. Way stiffer than my older 72. Idk if the bubble wrap helps much to curb the scratches on satin bolsters and shield on the burlap 🤔. Overall super good run and great improvement on the spring!

I feel like Natural Bone is like Stag, albeit far more forgiving, you either love what you got or hate it.

I'm pretty pleased with mine. Great color/texture, no play whatsoever, and after a good flush (action was very "gummy"), it's nice and smooth and ready to go in the pocket. I think the lock will require some breaking in but otherwise, it's a pretty stellar knife. I'm grateful that I could add this one to the collection.

Chechen rosewood arrived with solid lockup. Nice long pull, beautiful swedge, high polish finish. Nice grain that matches side to side. 3 of the 4 have perfect locks, one of my burlaps is solid side to side but has ever so slight amount of play up and down. While on this subject, I am extremely happy with the improved lock. After carrying an 83 for years, came to the conclusion that even though it has slight play, it has never failed or hinted at failure. Even with a slight amount of play, the locks on GECs are sufficient for their designed function. They provide enough security that I feel confident it won't close on my hand. Easy to open, easy to close. The lock on my first 72 from years ago was so bad I sold it but these are vastly improved. In a perfect world they would be stainless with steel liners ... however, these are keepers. If you are looking for a knife to carry, try one in the pocket. Three down, one to go!

How do they burn the "burnt" bone or "burnt" stag? Do they really? Or is it just a name for the colour, same as "avocado bone", "dark brewed bone" etc.?

Interesting. I just received my 72 Burlap Micarta and my smooth Sienna bone in the mail an hour ago. The Micarta is has satin bolsters, back spring, and shield. The bone has much more polished everything like a Northfield, even though it's a Titioute . I will wait to get the Northfield's to do an overall assessment. Nice knives though with very nice F&F.
Which one did you like better?

Thanks. But how does it happen? Maybe in a special owen? Apparently, fire from a simple lighter is not enough to "burn" the bone, I tried on my testing piece of bone, no colour change at all.

I don't recall seeing the phrase burnt bone myself. The post I referenced referred to burnt stag. The post referred to a torch not a lighter. I don't believe it is baked in an oven.
