2023 GEC Cody Scout #721123LB

And we got a green...

Looks nice but i was hoping for something similar to #83 Bark brewed bone! Still not sure if i love the bullet shield

I like it but it seems weird to see it not on a Remington. Either way I want one.

I already have the first 3 and all are very nice.
Any chance you could share a picture of a Che Chen wood? I wonder how it's grain varies.
This green looks like a tribute to the old Case Green Bone of the past, so I think the "C" is a nod to the old Case.
You talking about their Crandall green bone, right? I knew it reminded me of something!

The cover image is back up. If you noticed the original one said July 21 at the top, I think they just changed it to June.
Call GEC and ask Joan Mae or Sue what it stands for, and let us know.;)
I've never called GEC, and today probably isn't gonna be the day. I just don't think I'm ready for all of that.

I do love hearing the experiences of the folks who have called though.🤣

I just got the answer straight from Bill Howard as to what the "C" stands for, and he said, there is no definite answer and it's all up to the customers imagination. So there you have it. It seems like that's working.:D
So it does stand for "Crocodile" -- I knew it!!

That Bill Howard sure is a crafty guy 🤣

He's smart enough to not come right out and say it's a nod to Case greenbone of old, which it obviously is. 😁

Ahh I see. Just looked up what case greenbone looks like and I think you're right on the money. Seems like a nod to case but he may feel it unwise to come straight out and say so.

I was hoping that the Jigged Bone and the Color would be different . If the Green is Dark , it may not be too bad . I like the UNXLD shield . I don't know how well the Green will go with my Ugly Purple one either but I am still looking forward to my ???? reservation ???? coming to pass . I do like a 72 .

The C isn't for corncob jigging?

My Che Chen and Burnt Sienna came in today. Both are stunning. The bone has great color and texture. The wood is also very well done.

Both have a little vertical play when locked. I don't think it bothers me too much, but I'm less thrilled with the weak close on the Tidioute.

I'm glad I don't care for the bullet shield, I also don't love the jigging pattern on the bone NF-- so I won't buy a third. Green bone tho!

I don't mean to sound ungrateful, I'm super pleased to have gotten these.

I think a stainless blade version would rock. Maybe all steel construction, stainless blade and ebony covers?

Did they fix the cover picture? I still can't see it, cache cleaned in browser.

Edit: all's fine now.

Well, I must say I am quite impressed with the fit and finish on the che chen. I definitely got the bad apple of the bunch with the sienna bone. But, am so happy I managed to land this one.

I think the wood in my example has good character. The shield is fit nicely. The center pin, lanyard hole, shield, and transitions to bolster are all flush. Backspring is flush in open and closed positions without gaps. The threaded bolsters match and are straight and even. The long pull and swedging are nicely done. Pinchable open if you chose. Fairly even grinds on the blade. Just slightly off near the heel. Virtually no burr on the spring termination. The blade sits nicely in the blade well and I'm not seeing anything like blade rap. Lockup is nice and certainly talks. No side to side play. Ever so slight up and down. Snap close is better than what I'd expect for a lockback. Pull is probably a 4? Which again, is not bad for a lockback by any means. I think more important is that the pull is nice and smooth. Also, just the right amount of pressure required to release the lock to close.

I just wanted to make one other comment here, because I know some have gotten these newer 72s with no up and down play. I have now had in hand a sienna bone and a che chen rosewood. My brother landed a burlap micarta as well. All 3 had ever ever so sight up and down play. None have had side to side play. Neither of us had any of the previous lockbacks made by GEC. So, we cannot compare. But, from everything I've read, the new tooling is an improvement. Just be aware it seems to be luck of the draw.

In my opinion, the amount of up and down play I've seen on my two newer 72s is entirely insignificant. You would never notice if you weren't looking for it and even then you have to enable your "spidey senses" to really feel it. I truly wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy the knife!
