This bone has nothing to do with Burnt Stag. I believe it is only called Burnt Sienna to reference the color. The glazing and dye work GEC does on what they sometimes call Pioneer bone is apparently a highly guarded secret. It occasionally shows up in different colors. Bill Howard’s Bone Room is off limits to all except those who have to know. I am going to GEC next month for a visit, and I will try to learn more. Of course, if they tell me they might have to kill me. If I disappear from the Forum sometime next month, tell them to look for my bones in the vicinity of Titusville. Or maybe they will just use me for a future run. What a great way to hide the evidence. Stay away from any future covers called Burnt Cajun.
birdsbeaks , I was not implying that these are are identical to Pioneer Bone, only that they seem to have a similar treatment. To me it looks like some type of glaze with or without dye. However, I do not know what the exact recipe is. I am pretty sure these are not burned. Burnt Sienna is the name of the color. In making true Italian Burnt Sienna, the source material is heated to alter the color.
I quite like the color on that one! I think the browner green bone is more reminiscent of the old tested-era case green bone. I understand why you might be disappointed though if you were hoping for something with more green in it like the GEC website. The jigging on the pile side is unfortunate. FWIW, I've seen up and down play on 2 of 2 and my brother on 1 of 1. None of the up down play was worth writing home about, but it seems that some are getting quite solid lockup. It does make me wonder if these will break in over a longer period of time or not. Either way, I'm sorry you didn't get one you were happy with. I had to send my sienna bone back for a refund, which was disappointing as that was the one I really wanted. I did manage to get a che chen rosewood, however, that I'm quite happy with.My cgreen looks more like cbrown. Some folks prefer this color, but was hoping for more of a green as shown on GECs website and some folks pics. Left color checker grey squares cropped in the pic to show the color is accurate. Pile side jigging doesn't quite meet in the center, dye is darker in that smooth area. Lock on this one is solid side to side but has up and down rock, kind of like previous run 72s. Smear on the blade is oil used trying to work / improve the lock. Thinking this could have been a S model ... NFS

I was hoping for a blue or purple jigged bone but, for me, the bullet shield makes up for it all the way.I ended up declining on the c green jigged bone. The total package is just not my cuppa tea. Kinda funny, since it was the trim that I thought I was going to like the most.
I am quite content with the wood Northfield that I got. it's a beaut and nearly matches the Ben Hogan that Cambertree gifted to me.
The bone Tidioute I got is gorgeous, but has a lazy spring. The self close has improved with break-in, but it did try to open in my pocket once, before the pivot had smoothed out some.
I have not contacted GEC. I may do that, thanks.I was hoping for a blue or purple jigged bone but, for me, the bullet shield makes up for it all the way.
All of the Che Chen versions I've seen have been gorgeous. I think that was the sleeper of this run.
Lazy spring isn't cool! Have you contacted GEC? Only knife (technically it was the saw blade) I've had open up in my pocket was on a Leatherman Wave. I don't pocket carry them anymore and boy was that a lot of blood.

That is one purty knife!Thankseuroken ! It looks richer and nicer IRL than on iPhone pics (and still covered in oil).
I'm surprised by the scratches on the shield that I will have to buff out with a Cape Cod cloth, but this is how GEC shipped it. I located some other nice people who had multiples in different covers to sell me one of them. I found a burlap micarta and rosewood, to go towards a full set, with only 1 more to find - green jigged bone...

My favorite covers of the run, but the action isn’t that great on this one. My burlap and rosewood are a lot better. This one is a little stiff opening and closing.
And, just like that, your inbox is filling up...Not sure but this one may be a catch and release.![]()
Looks like a winner to me Dan.Postie Mike just dropped off this beauty. Fit and finish is excellent and the lock up is tight. Not sure but this one may be a catch and release.

Definitely a keeper Pete! I’m really impressed by the jigging on these. Haven’t seen any ones I didn’t like.Looks like a winner to me Dan.
My 72 came is in. I like it! Love the blade shape. No noticeable play in any direction.
