4.1 thread

I'd be willing to bet 3 months. Mark your calendar for a reminder around Jan 19th and forget about it for now. Regardless of how long it takes, I'll guarantee you'll be a happy camper when it comes.

I'll second that!

I ordered one, but have not heard anything. I'm still confused about what I've gotten myself into with this, or how they already knew how many 2nds the are going to be. I don't even know if I am guaranteed a knife or only if it's mid of a waiting list for if a 2nd becomes available by chance. Also, having a bit of buyers remorse, wondering if they are going to reopen factory 1st sales again like they did for the 4.7.

You must be new here. You'll likely not get your knife for many, many months no matter what was said in the sales thread. Sorry to pile on with the bubble bursting but S!K has a lot of ticked off customers and has NEVER met a shipping date in the last two years.

You're "guaranteed" a knife (unless they go bankrupt) so no worries about you actually having an order. You have one. Getting that knife is another issue.

There is a whole thread in the Survive!Knives forum about this issue with concerns over their business practices. You should read it if you really want to see how it works.

Good luck.

It'd be nice to keep that negativity over there. Not a big deal to let people know about the concerns without rehashing it here. This subforum is choking on toxicity. IMO, as always.

I wanted to buy one but the buying process is to complicated and uncertain for me so I bought a Bark River Bushcraft 2 instead. Now I want another knife but still uncertain about time and process so i'm going with a Falkniven S1 Pro. I still want to get a GSO in the near future so i'll on continue to check their production schedule from time to time.

Sam2511, if you're not willing to wait an extended period of time, regardless of how you order, probably best to try to pick one up off the exchange forum.

no, I am not new. I realized before I ordered that it was going to take a while, which I have no problem with. My questions were based entirely around the idea that factory second pre-orders IS a new idea to survive knives. I still don't think survive has ever addressed how exactly this is going to work.

For example, in order to pre-sale Factory seconds they'd need to have an approximate number for how many would be available. Have they finished all of the knives and just waiting on sheaths? Are they guessing? If they are guessing, what happens if they don't get as many Factory seconds as they projected? I wasn't trying to complain, just trying to figure out how this is going to work.

You pay up front and wait, and don't know how long the wait will be. SK! has it laid out on their website how it works.
http://surviveknives.com/how-to-buy/

The order of who gets what first:

Monday/(Wensdays) 2nd's = Will have the shortest wait time as they are in-stock items. And (can) get thiers first. Lead time is has recently been several months despite the site saying weeks.
Preorder= Get theirs next but the rollout of Preorders can (or at least has in the past) taken almost a year to roll out. (ie. 4.7)
Presale=Get thiers last. So if you got presale GSO "X" but preorder GSO "X" takes a year to roll out, you will be looking at over a year. Hopefully orders going forward won't take a year to rollout like the 4.7 has, but know one really knows.

Hope that helps.

Doc Jenks, there have been pictures posted (sorry for not tracking some of them down) of stacks of blade blanks sitting in the Survive shop sorted into piles by how clean they are. I suspect that determining the minimum number of available seconds is simply a matter of counting how many blanks are in the pile that definitely can't be reworked into a first due to cosmetic defects.

That has been my guess as well. Mostly I was getting tired of people misinterpreting my original post, and decided to clarify. Haha.

I wouldn't bet anything important on the the delivery date for any model, but I'm kind of hoping that they can finish off the 4.7 orders by the end of the year, make a good dent in the 2.7 orders during the winter, and start shipping meaningful numbers of the 4.1 by next Spring. That might be an optimistic estimate, but as we go through the models the numbers of starters and presales for each ought to be declining, which ought to give Survive a chance to get on top of the production backlog.
There is nothing more frustrating than getting in a hole and then having to climb your way out of it so I'm hoping that Survive can make some progress in the next few months.

Soo what do you do when you have that long to wait for a knife ..? I ordered a k1 last night in m390 that should hold me over for a month I hope

Long waits are fairly common for some companies. I have waited a year, and some makers are 3 years out. You decide what you can wait for

well... for my 4.1 I will wait and be happy doing it 😊

RR, there was already one round of 4.1 seconds that sold out, although I strongly suspect that there will be more later on.
