For me, the sweet spot in blade length is 3 1/4". And ZT has given me an abundance of options. Not to say that I wouldn't like a 3" Wharncliffe Hinderer, but I'd want something better than S35VN. I know that sounds petty and I know a number of people think S35VN is the best thing since carbon and iron were introduced, but it doesn't do it for me. I'm getting grumpy in my old age, and it's getting to where Elmax is my low end choice.
It's hard out here for a steel snob.![]()
I just don't dig the 0900. Too bulky.

It looks like almost all of the 6 new ZT folders announced at the 2016 SHOT Show will be at ZT dealers by late this week! The exception seems to be 0456.
Just looked over ZT's new offerings and I am a bit disappointed. The only knife they will be introducing that I will be interested in is the 450cf.
ZT should have at least added some thumstuds to the 909, even at 7oz+ I would have considered one.
Does anyone know the blade thickness on the new releases? I searched around and can't find it listed anywhere...
Most likely all are 3-4mm tops. The only one i could see thicker is the anso.
Several of the new releases in stock already
I have been collecting knives for about six years know. The main thing that I have found is that just like each one of us have different tastes in cars/trucks, food, girls (etc.)...our tastes in knives also differ. I love Ford. I love my 2015 Ford F-150 and my wive's 2013 Ford Explorer. Does that make my truck better than my buddies 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500?...probably only in the eye of the beholder that happens to like Fords too.
When I first started collecting knives, I watched countless reviews that claimed that an every-day carry shouldn't weigh over 4oz. So what did I do?...I avoided all knives weighing 5oz and over. I continued collecting knives for two full years, being ignorant to the fact that I might love a stout, over-built knife.
I remember researching and drooling over the ZT 0550, but kept thinking that it weighed too much. Finally I threw caution to the wind and bought a 0550. MAN! I had been missing out! I felt like Crocodile Dundee holding that stout Hinder collaboration in my hand and the words " Now this is a knife!" kept echoing threw my head. I found that day that I LOVED heavy robust over-built knives. This doesn't mean that every one needed to, but these types of knives grabbed me.
Time has passed and I have found that I really love titanium frame-lock flippers with a 3.25-3.5 inch blade. This doesn't mean that a frame-lock is better than a back, compression, liner, or bearing lock. It also doesn't mean that a flipper is better than a thumb stud, blade hole, or nail clip deployment. It only means that these are my preferred methods.
I have four kids (three boys). I am also the scout-master here in my town. I go camping, hunting, fishing, and lots of hikes. On top of that, I am a electrical lineman. Needless to say, I use knives a lot. I seem to be drawn to a well built, heavy knife. I never notice the weight of a 6oz knife in my pocket on long hikes, but then again I also have a 7.5 inch Super RedHawk 44 mag usually strapped to my chest on long hikes.
My point is this, just because you like thumb studs, doesn't mean that ZT should have put studs on there 2016 knives. The wonderful thing about 2016 is that there are multiple production knife companies that make numerous models of knives. It is awesome that we are able to choose from such a vast variety of knives. With all the choices, we can choice the exact models that speak to each one of us.
I personally am not a huge fan of Benchmade knives. Now, don't misunderstand. Benchmade makes an awesome knife, but it just isn't my preference. So, I wouldn't go onto a Benchmade thread and complain that they don't have enough titanium, frame-lock flippers with a 3.5 inch blade. That would be nuts, because that just wouldn't fit Benchmades criteria.
I am stoked with this new ZT line-up. Be happy with all the new models coming out from all the big production manufacturers. The variety is what makes the knife community and the people here so great. Stay happy. Life is good.![]()
