#77 Barlow 2016 - What configuration would you like?

You have 24 hours.
That Red looks great! All 4 options look fantastic. I didnt think I would like the green, but sure enough the final product looks so good!

I'm not the definitive source by any means but I have ordered this way many times. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the ordering process, as I don't want to run afoul of the rules here but would be happy to help. :) I'm sure Mike AKA knifeswapper would as well.

Odd. GEC is the factory. Unless they ran out of steel and bone, I would think they could just make more. If they made a commitment to a specific order size, they should be able to fill that.

I believe they run a certain number of parts and covers. If some come out subpar they have less to send to dealers. I believe they work this way so that they don't have to sit on inventories of different parts and materials. It allows them to have a relatively quick turnaround between when they have to pay for the materials and when they get paid for the completed product.

Shortages seem to happen most often with the cover material. The time that stands out most to me was the snakewood covers from the last run of 47s. Some of the covers cracked when they were hafting the knives, so they ended up with less vipers in snakewood than they had planned for. For most runs I don't think it's that big of a deal. Each dealer just gets a couple less. For an SFO that was sold by the dealer as preorders it becomes more of an issue. There's only one dealer to absorb the whole shortage and the knives are all already spoken for.

It looks like they have started the #35 sfo. They probably changed the tooling on their machines to produce that pattern instead of #77s.

It is probably too expensive for them to start over and make more parts for a very small "make-up" run. I went in with someone last year on an SFO from GEC and there is an understood +/- tolerance on the order.

It does suck when it's your knife that they ran short on, but unfortunately that's the way it goes.

Quick question, are we going to post pictures of these new 77s in the 77 impressions thread right? Just trying to avoid confusion

Copperhead in the basket.

I went with the copperhead because it looked to me like the most "classic Barlow" cover material. I must say though, that I really like the look of the "bone micarta" and hope GEC uses that material on some other patterns. That raw canvas with the random specks makes me nostalgic for art school, stretching canvasses in painting class. I can almost smell the oils and mineral spirits. :)

Regardless of how or why these shortages happened, I'm sure there is enough fustration to go around. Not just for the customers pushed to "Standby", but for Mike and the guys at GEC as well. I don't blame anyone for anything as nothing in this world is guaranteed. My #77 bone micarta is in the hands of the Gods now.

(bowing head) Let us pray.

I just knew I'd hate myself if I didn't pre-order a red jigged bone. After seeing the pics today on the GEC site, I'm now sure of it. They're absolutely gorgeous!

Just paid for my 4...I can't wait! I'm SO GLAD they went with canvas instead of linen Micarta.

I am also glad they went canvas over linen and that it has inclusions in it. I like the vintage micarta look a lot.

Im wondering what happend... machinery problems? It had to be a last minute ordeal or else the dealer wouldnt have allowed for as many.

I know we all haven't gotten everything we wanted (except wtlj ;)) but I believe I speak for everyone in that......Mike, thank you for all of the work that goes into bringing these orders to fruition. We really do appreciate it. This year's run looks fantastic! Best regards my friend

It makes no sense either because I received the confirmation of my reservation with no issues . Knives ordered and paid for, crisis averted:thumbup:

The confirmation email didn't have a link in it for your spam filter to get paranoid about...

Boy, seems like the green sawcut were hit pretty hard, add me to the list.....:( C'est la vie

The hardest. So far a full 1/3 have not come thru.

I fully expect to get the biggest part of these knives once they come back thru from blades scratches, etc other cosmetic issues. But I can't sell something I don't have confirmed yet; so I put a line in each list and sold what I have in transit so that I could actually pay my bill at GEC (Chris was getting a little testy) ;)

But let's don't give up on them yet; I think Bill is probably busting his hump to get them thru.

Sorry to be reading about this, Mike. I know that you must put a lot into these runs, and I hate to hear that any problems come up. I'm sure that GEC will do everything in their power to get you as many knives as possible.

Thanks Mike for sure! I really appriciate your honesty and cander. There's a reason I've bought 20+ GEC knives from you and only one new one from another dealer. I've yet to be anything but impressed by your integrity and work ethic!

Hoping the remaining release is easy on you and puts a fine Barlow into the hands of the majority here!
