#77 Barlow 2016 - What configuration would you like?

Close to identical in function with the sheepfoot or wharncliffe blades the lambfoot has a substantially lower profile when closed, making it less obtrusive in hand and pocket.

A 77 Barlow with lambfoot blade would be an interesting addition, bringing variety to the excellent Northfield designs.

edit; I'll be interested in whatever get selected but I'm hoping for either a drop point or lambfoot.
Mike do these type threads help?:)

Blade:
-Zulu spear with LOOOONG pull and short cut swedge (my preference) OR drawn swedge with a nick toward the tip. Please don't do a double pull.
-Sabre Ground swedged clip with long pull or nick on the flat
-both as singles or preferably with coping behind

Handles:
-sawcut bone in colors other than red.
-figured wood
-blackwood

Other:
-All steel construction please!
-WRAPAROUND SPRING!

Whatever the combo the knife will look excellent.

But as this is a kind of DIP (Dream In Progress) type of thread, is anybody attracted to a single Sabre Clip or Spear?? Drop-point is interesting but as Merry MadMonk points out, they lay low in the frame so might not suit the pinchback brigade too much.

As I've said before, I'd love an Ivory Sawn Bone, or Scratted Ivory Bone or jigged Ivory. Something different but still within the parameters of known Traditional. If a diffeent wood were offered, some stripey Zebra makes for a very beautiful and different knife, I don't know if zebra has become scarce as Queen dropped it a couple of years back, more's the pity.

A Peach Seed jig would always be welcome.

Thanks, Will

Loving all these suggestions. Ivory sawcut? Ivory jigged bone? Sounds amazing. Unequivocally traditional, but classy and heretofore unseen (by me at least).

My choices as follows:

All steel construction - I love bolster patina on a barlow
Clip Point Blade - Not as picky on the actual shape, but I would love a clip point single blade option. Satin finish!
Wood Burl Handle - maple, walnut, just about all of them look great
Saw-cut bone - Im open to any color option here
"Flat" edges - I like the look where the end of the handle is flat along the spine and around the base (not rounded smooth like in last years 77s). I also like the corners/edges of the handles flattened.

I'm for a long pull match striker drop point easy open in single blade and in 2 blade with a coping blade

Would love to see another run of Red saw cut bone with a single blade, Clip or Spear. Missed out on the last batch.
Also noticed a nice Mod on the forum- an E/O notch!

Main: Sheepsfoot, long pull with match strike.
Secondary (if any): Pen
Steel: Whatever y'all think is "best". Satin finish, so not to be a fingerprint magnet.
Bolsters, liners, pins: Brass.
Covers: Walnut.
Shield (if used): Something subdued.
File Work: None.

Beerlow!
Main blade: Spear or Drop Point, Swedged w/long pull
Secondary Blade: Caplifter
All steel construction.
Wood Handles: good selection of high contrast woods such as Cocobolo or Zebra wood. Flat handle w/beveled edges.
Bone Handles: Red Soup bone would be good as would appaloosa in a warm color. w/sawcut texture. I don't remember a 77 in a soup bone whereas the TCs look great with a soup bone.
A Lanyard hole w/sleeve would also be an interesting addition.

I like the ideas of smooth yellow bone. A dark red would be pretty neat too.

Whatever primary you go with please don't loose that oh so sweet coping blade. It makes this great knife even greater.

Brass pins liners for me...
Blades: Drop point that rides high enough to pinch...I can pinch open my Bull Nose easy enough even at the tip end. I can go Clip also, how about a California clip. deep nail nick, of course! Secondary of a Large punch would be great.

Covers: well if you have any left over snakeskin acrylic, i know am still waiting on what it actually looks like. brown burlap or even pinecone micarta. In Bone...bring back the Grizzly Bear jigging, and smoooooth white bone would be my picks. Seems that GEC is on a roll with snakeskin so bring that to the 77.

Thank you Mike for keeping the 77 in mind for 2016, the 3 5/8 framed barlow is perfect for myself and seems to have lots of fans!!!

This will likely be my first #77, so I am open to a range of possibilities. I will say, however, that a beerlow with a swedged long-pull spear would be a 100% certain purchase for me. :D

I don't have a 77 yet, but would like a black dress knife. Ebony, micarta (black or brown micarta, actually). Also would like a 440C blade. Clip, spear, or sheepsfoot, single blade, please.

Please no more caplifters. As mentioned in another thread for the forum knife..they have been done to death.

They are neither traditionally on a barlow nor do we need them after an overabundance of beer, soda & gun scouts. I love them as much as the next person but they don't belong. Such things like an EO notch or caplifter can be done afterwards by modders and such.

I like the idea of a drop point but as many mentioned before, they are harder to pull open.
However, as well known as the 25's are for their strong springs..this 25 Barlow with drop point is easy to open with the proper placement of nail nick. The only gripe is the mirror finish on this one. With a satin finish as Mike does it'd be much easier to operate

As was this drop point Dowell I had. Perfect placement of the nail nick with an attractive swedge.

I agree with you On the EO Notch and Caplifter Tim !!!!! I prefer to keep a Barlow a Barlow . But that may be just us.

Agreed Harry.

I'd also like to see something new variation wise.

We've already seen many of the knife variations that some people have been suggesting above.

If it's been done before in a specific configuration and people just want these same configurations because they can't find it readily or immediately for the moment..it just takes some time and patience.

I'd like a Wharncliff main blade with a pen secondary. I'd like the secondary to be nicked and swedged on the opposing side and the blades to be as low as possible. I'm not into pinching the blade and want it low for using comfort. I'd like threaded pinched bolsters, and jigged amber bone scales. I'd also buy one with Ivory micarta.

We haven't seen a a taller pinchable clip. I'd still punch to see this. Both single and with a coping secondary dropped real low in the frame with a slight subtle groove in the frame like on the punch awles. This would allow the main to still be pinched open even without an EO notch which I vote without. This gives you the best of both worlds a blade with belly and a scriber.

I like the look of a lambs foot, but what I typically like most about straight edges is that they are typically proud in the frame allowing them to be pinched.
I'm able to pinch many drop point blades as well but they have a curve to the frame. in the 77 frame I feel this would ride quite flat and low like the spears. I like the spears, but they're not pinchable.

Perhaps: 2016 could launch a 77 Tidioute Barlow with a T U bolster stamp?
