#78 American Jack

Adding some "Heat" to my trucks gas tank, needed the #78 to dispense with the little circular foil under the cap:thumbsup:

Thanks Much :)
I think you’ll be very happy with the white bone also
Gec has really knocked it out of the park with this #78 run and honestly believe they will be sought after greatly when there sold out .
I’ve got a Ebony guaranteed reserved and a Stag “ sure “ but standby from Mike at CK knives . Also another Cocobolo on the way from another dealer .
Yup I’m loving this single blade #78 pattern

Ouch. That seems very unusual. Ae you going to try and exchange it?

,,,Mike in Canada

I asked about it but the dealer didn't have any left to exchange it. If I was a collector I think this would be a tough issue to overlook, but I decided to keep and use it. Still not excited that it came from a dealer with an obvious scratched spot on the blade.

This run of 78s has me struggling with a bit of self control.... A good solid variety of attractive cover materials has me pining for more than just the two I was planning on acquiring. Up until this point, I had been resolved to try both the 2 blade and the single blade variants, one in the Tidioute trim and the other in the Northfield trim. I currently have my Cocobolo 2 blade in hand and am awaiting the single blade Ebony but while I wait, I am hard pressed not to try and pick one of the single blades in Cocobolo or White Bone.

I am developing a preference for the Tidioute trim due to my proclivities as a user versus a collector and though I like the 2 blade version just fine, it is certainly a big knife and I wonder if the single blade might prove to be a better everyday pocketable cutter... I forced myself to pass up the Desert Ironwood run but my initial resolve is starting to fade...

I guess we shall see what happens. I am pretty happy with this Cocobolo regardless.

Does the white bone age well or has anyone tried enhancing it a bit for an older look? Strong tea stain maybe or just natural use?

I have seen some well loved/aged white bone and I think it "patinas" beautifully on its own. Of course, it might be dependent on the individual bone but it seems as though it darkens and yellows some with age and use. Part of the reason I am almost inclined to scoop one up. I'd like to see how it evolves with use.

Dylan,

I know exactly how you feel. I usually only allow myself one example of the patterns I like. This round it was supposed to be the Appaloosa. But, when I saw the way the Ironwood was shaping up, I had to grab one. Now, the Stag is looking very tempting as well as the Appaloosa. I guess I will make a final decision when I receive my Appaloosa. They vary quite a bit, and it looks like it will be the luck of the draw whether I get a great one or just an average one. I just did not want to pass on the Appaloosa. It looks like GEC does not use it very often, whereas Stag is always plentiful.

My Scratted Bone 2-Blader arrived today. This could very well be the best knife I receive all year, and we're only 2 days in!

The bone is full of character, and the jigging is reminiscent of an actual gunstock

Beauty. How's access the the nail nick on the main?

If I wasn’t a life-long nail biter it would be fine. Takes a little more angling and the pull on this one is more of a 7. I did notice that the pen is a little higher than the last run so I might file the kick a little bit.

Been holding out for the 2 blade Northfields and the first one showed up today, really like the jigging, very much like gunstock checkering as Tstaut stated. Pulls are great, fit and finish excellent, no problem at all on the main blade nail nick, the pen is not in the way at all. I really like the length of the pen, very usable length.
One of the pictures shows it with a vintage Cattaraugus.
