940-1's are shipping now..................

Mine is from KSF, just contacted them for return. The Contego brought me back around to BM, "clear" M4 and M390 versions were just about perfect, but we shouldn't have to tweek and massage a $263 knife from a prominent production company.

My two regular production Contego M4 were perfect but the M390 one had blade centering issue which I fixed.

In my opinion, you're absolutely right: "we shouldn't have to tweak and massage a $263 knife from a prominent production company.".

There are some of these on the auction site that do not have the first production on the blade, maybe some of us will luck out and get ones that don't have writing on the blade, I forgot about the writing before I ordered mine.

#621 is at my side as we speak. Picked it up over-the-counter from my local dealer yesterday.

Took it back to the factory today to have the blade laser-engraved. The technician indicated that they were quite excited to offer a blade in S90V steel and are hoping it is well received by their customers.

#621 of 750 replaces #305 of 500, a limited edition 940 with CF handles, which was either lost or stolen. #305 was gift from my son and I was so broken-hearted when it disappeared. It was my EDC for quite a few years.

Not sure I agree with the design changes for the 940-1. Still, it will be much easier to clean. On the other hand, I never had any problems cleaning a 940.

By the way, I learned this first production run of 750 is all that will be produced in 2014. I could not determine if this model will become a regular catalog item in the future.

Then how do you explain this?

I don't. The attendant mentioned that they had just finished shipping the 940-1. In addition to the 750 First Production knives, several other categories were mentioned, such as Dealer Samples. I am sorry I didn't write them all down. Also mentioned the employees had not received their personal orders of this model and were all anxiously awaiting their arrival.

I am not employed by Benchmade; I am only a customer that happens to live less than five miles from the factory. Please take my comments for what they are worth.

Agreed. Happily, mine was perfect. Sorry about yours. :thumbdn:

I lucked out and snagged #750 of 750, if your going to have to suffer with some propaganda etched into your blade, it might as well be somewhat interesting ;-) Exciting times!

I ordered mine today, it should be here early next week! Not normally a huge Benchmade fan but this combo was too hard to resist.

I received mine just now! The CF is very nice.

Unfortunately, the blade is completely to one side and it will not be corrected using the usual method. The blade is not sharp and the grind uneven and thinner on one side. Sending it to Benchmade. VERY DISAPPOINTED! It's a shame that a $264 knife is like this and the problem isn't fixed before leaving the factory!!

UPDATE: Shipped it to Benchmade Warranty on 4/26/2014 (USPS Priority Mail + Insurance) with a note that it's brand new and that the blade needs to be centered, the grind is off, sharpen it and check for centering and blade play afterwards. Last time I sent a knife to Benchmade was a couple of years ago and I got it back in about 10 days all fixed. Hoping for a fast turnaround with all the proper fixes!

Pretty disappointing that users have to tweak their $250+ knives to get them how they should have been shipped, after being inspected.

None of my BMs exhibit higher QC than any other as a general trend. I have Grips that came better than gold class knives for instance. They're all about the same, suffer similar problems and have the same good qualities as well. BM doesn't add extra QC as the price increases, or to put it another way they don't increase the price to cover additional qc costs, so above-standard QC shouldn't be expected in these. And with that in mind, off center blades and bad edges are not the rarest of complaints against Benchmade. It shouldn't be surprising even with the higher price....My $.02 based on the BMs I've purchased

Thanks for pointing out there are some without the first production on the blade. I was going to pick up one of them from that auction site, but they were throwing on $23 in taxes...still on the lookout
