940-1's are shipping now..................

Got mine and it's a perfect specimin. Light as a feather and fit and finish excellent. The blade is centered and grind along with sharpness is on point.l asked the dealer to inspect before shipping.

It sure sounds like people are better off buying Benchmades from a local retail shop (if one is convenient) for both a discount (even after sales tax) and the ability to check the quality.

Yea, I was just thinking that same thing. I guess this concept + the new MAP policy plays right into BM's and their Dealer's hands. Take the Internet purchasing out of the mix and forces the purchaser to visit a brick-and-mortar. For me, it just means an end to any BM purchases. I will not deal with a company that exhibits these antics. I'm also not one of these people that will dislike something and choose to "live with it". I have and will vote with my wallet. Someone else will get my business.

So all of these ones from this first batch all have "First Production, # of 750" on them?

No, there are bare blades in the retail channel now. I believe that KSF has them, for example. Others probably do as well.

I snagged one from my local knife shop as well. The place is generally full of junk, but they carry a few kershaws, some entry level spydercos, and for some odd reason carry a pretty large selection benchmades. I stopped by tonight on the off chance I'd run into a 940-1, i was sure it would be WAY overpriced.

Well lo and behold, they had one in the case, so I obviously asked to see it. It was a first production and priced at $309...ouch. I handed it back to him and said the price was a bit steep. The salesman then said he had one he could sell me for $255, but it didn't have the first production etching...BINGO!!! As it turned out, he just got them in today and he only got one unnumbered one in.

I am lucky to have found a good specimen. The blade was a bit off center out of the box, but a couple minutes of slight tweaking and everything is centered, smooth, and solid. Mine came pretty sharp as well, but the edge angle is a bit on the obtuse side. Now off to the wicked edge...

Been happy with mine! Was just fortunate enough to have 3 to choose from at a retail shop not far from me. I was glad that i also had an option & chose a clean blade (without the '1st prod'n'). No issues too!:)

I received #750, blade is centered and grind is even but it does feels like the dullest BM I have ever purchased. And the pocket clip is not tight against the knife, it is ever so slightly bent outward. Overall I am quite happy with it.

BTW...Talum15, which knife comes with that butterfly pocket clip!? I really like the style and deep carryism of it.

Funny about the pocket clip. I had that issue with a recently acquired Rift. Easy fix though.

I ordered one this morning and asked them to QC the knife before mailing it to me. I also asked for a knife without the first production writing on it. Should be here by Saturday. It'll be a replacement for my Kulgera that I "misplaced" somewhere last month.

Hi EspionageStudio ...
These are the same as the Contego's. They come in black coated & polished finishes. I stripped the coated one that went to the 940-1 to match the blade finish that came with it.

I received mine just now! The CF is very nice.

Unfortunately, the blade is completely to one side and it will not be corrected using the usual method. The blade is not sharp and the grind uneven and thinner on one side. Sending it to Benchmade. VERY DISAPPOINTED! It's a shame that a $264 knife is like this and the problem isn't fixed before leaving the factory!!

UPDATE: Shipped it to Benchmade Warranty on 4/26/2014 (USPS Priority Mail + Insurance) with a note that it's brand new and that the blade needs to be centered, the grind is off, sharpen it and check for centering and blade play afterwards. Last time I sent a knife to Benchmade was a couple of years ago and I got it back in about 10 days all fixed. Hoping for a fast turnaround with all the proper fixes!

UPDATE: I had shipped my faulty 940-1 to Benchmade on Saturday. They received it on Monday morning. Yesterday (Tuesday) I contacted them via the web form regarding when I should expect my brand new 940-1 back. Today (Wednesday), just now, I received a FedEx notice that a package is coming to me from Benchmade. FAST turnaround! It could be another brand new 940-1 but as long as the blade is centered without play and reasonably sharp I'll be content. I'll advise when received hopefully on Friday.

What clips do you have on your knives and where can I get one?

Charlie ... You can get in touch with benchmade & they'll send it to you, not sure if there's a minimal charge for it. I got these from them as a replacement as i had bent mine accidentally a while back.

I don't think I've ever bought a BM with a clip tight to the knife. I had assumed it was intentional.

Hm this thread made me check the 940-1 in my pocket I got #321 of the first production run and its well centered maybe favoring one side just slightly. But I think it just seems slightly off center because my grinds are off. One is side is very clearly a steeper angle than the other!

Thanks; I've sent an email to Benchmade. The clips on your knives in the picture look like low carry ones and that is what I'm looking for.
