9mm

Have you considered the CZ models?

My thoughts exactly. They are my favorite maker. They wonderful thing about CZs is that you can upgrade them like crazy or not at all. A standard one will run about 500.

Mine was considerably more, but it has a bushing system that guarantees mine for <2.5 inch groupings at 50 yards. It also has a short reset trigger and full ambi controls including slide stop. Trit front/rear sights go without saying. Trigger pull is less than 3 pounds single action and about 8 pounds double. The single has less than 1/16 inch of pretravel. The tuned 1911 guys get jelly of my da/sa CZ because the SA is so crisp.

CZ75 or CZ SP01 with a Angus Hobdell trigger job or if you have the pesos Sig P210. Can't go wrong with either one. :)

I generally prefer 45's, 357's and 44 mags, but I have a couple of these for kit...

Nothing special—just a light, compact, practically indestructible piece that does the same thing over and over and over again.

Boring, I know.

I gotta vote glock.....ive used glocks all over the would for work....they've been wet, filled with sand and dirt and mud...beatin and abused and no they ain't pretty but go bang when you need them too....you can buy a glock 22 and buy after market barrels and the convert to 357sig and use the same 40 mag that's in the g22 or swap to a 9mm barrel and use a 9mm mag and shoot 9mm ammo......all glocks except the 10mm and 45 use the same frame so you get a glock 22 40cal and convert down you can also do the same with the glock 45 and convert down to 10mm,40ect....converting down cal you don't gotta switch slides just barrels and mags.....see if you can locate a police dept trade in glock 22 or the glock 21(or what ever the 45 version is and convert away) also good ammo makes a big difference but a glock will shoot anything and with after market barrels you don't gotta deal with lead ammo building up in the glock barrel(different rifling in glock barrels) oh and tons of after market parts and anyone can work on 1.....i never goto work with out a glock and my busse cuz no matter what they bout never fail.......1gun multiple calibers...cant lose....oh if you do go for a Beretta try and find 1of the Italian made 92's....their better built than the USA made 1s in my opinion

lazy otter,

converting Glock's from 40 S&W to 9mm is not just a simple barrel and mag change, if you intend to stake your life upon it. You would also need to swap ejectors, extractors, spring loaded bearing and possibly recoil springs. It will not be 100% reliable without these additional parts, just FYI.

You aren't a real gun nut until you have a 9mm Hi-Power. Sweetest ergonomics in the gun world.

May I inquire about more details about the poor results, ie shot placement and which animals? What calibers have you chosen instead?
Winchester silvertip center of the chest on a standing raccoon 5 feet away, he ran off to die in the woods, over 200 yards away. Center shot on another raccoon with a federal hydroshock he disappeared into the night as well only to return a few weeks later and get shot with a 45. He had a nice pink scar center of the chest. Coyote right behind the front leg in the chest with a winchester silver tip, he ran off never to be seen again. I've shot many other varmits with similar results from the 9mms which dosn't give me a great deal of confidence in using it for self defense. So I switched to 45s and have had even more dead right theres, and a few now with a 10mm. Which gives explosively dead right there results.

I have read all the reports and studies that 9mm is just a good as a 45 and seen the jello tests and statistics. All I'm saying is just from personal experience that they have not delivered remotely the same results on real animals.

I would suggest the Glock 29 with Underwood Ammo. I CCW a Glock 20. Serious firepower, more than 9mm, .40 S&W (short and weak), .45 ACP. 16 rounds with 700+ ft lbs.

I shoot guns everyday. All day. They all break. They all have strong points and weak points. My personal choice comes down to two. Glock and Sig. Glock may not be what some call 'pretty', but who cares. It's not a fashion show. The Glock is supremely reliable and ingeniously simple. Proper care and maintenance is essential with any firearm, as is proper training and consistent practice.

Choose wisely.........

I have one. Feels like a 2x4 compared to my CZ that I posted above. The CZ holds more rounds and still feels slimmer. The Hi-power felt fat in comparison and holds less rounds. I love it for what it is, a single action only handgun, but I love my CZ the most.

Im just glad to see you doing better:)

Although, I have a soft spot for the 92. My dad had one. Mel Gibson had one too:D

Hey Beef, following T here in that glad your doing better and a soft spot here as well for the 92. I don't have it anymore but I have the 96FS. I just love the pistol as it fits my mits just perfect. Balance, grip and easy to use.

I recently got a super 9mm the Glock Gen4 G32 in 357 Sig-love it! But you are asking about a full size 9mm, that reminded me of an article I saw in American Rifleman about a Sig MK25 , it's a replica of the military version of the Sig 226 that was adopted by the Navy Seals instead of the Berreta when the military switched to 9mm in 1984.

well I've done many glock conversions and seen many and with a good aftermarket barrel and mag you can reliably shoot a converted glock.....with the exception of the 10mm and 45 glock they are all basicly the same and converting from 40 down is okay.... I will say that these conversions may only work with 3rd Gen blocks i got no exp with early glock models or the current 4th Gen....and stock glock barrels do seem to cause extraction problems but good aftermarket barrels work great.....but most glock parts are interchangeable from the g17-g22
