9mm

I got a Springfield XD Sub Compact for my wife. Nice, small, and compact. I sent it in for a trigger job from Springfield, and that things shoots unbelievably! It's a little small for my tastes, but would make a nice carry gun for when you are really trying to be discrete.

i think i would never buy a glock :foot:

They're great...

...if you like the ergonomics of a 2x4. I only respect them because they work well and generally don't fail often. Other than function, I hate them. They look and feel like plastic tupperware or a lego pistol. Life is too short to have an ugly gun (that feels like a block of wood while you're holding it).

Kind of funny

For a small 9mm, I carry a Sig 290 and really like it

It was my first polymer (only polymer) gun, I still feel odd. It's heavier than a 938, but I like carrying a DAO pistol, and once you're used to the trigger shooting the center out of a silhouette target at 20 yards is possible. The 290s had a bad rap early on, mostly for light strikes which is debatable why it was happening so much (hammer spring tension, firing pin block spring/firing pin block timing). For me, using factory loads, it's been 100%. The few instances I've had problems with it, it was because I was shooting 50 year old corrosive Interarms ammo (and they were ratty looking), and some of my reloads the primers weren't seated all the way. I could see and feel them, but shot them anyway. Light strike then boom. Anyway, I like it. Got it back in February or March, got around 750 rounds through it.

For a full size gun, well, it's semi full and semi compact, but I've been eyeing maybe a Sig 225/P6. Single stack 8 shot, and you can get them relatively cheap. But, hard to beat a 226 or 229.

I like Hi Powers, and being a John Browning design it's great and reliable, but the mag safeties kill me, and not a fan of external extractors. Plus, they feel a bit small, really need a beavertail IMO. That being said, I have one, don't shoot it, just bought it cause it was old and I thought it was cool, FN P35.

a 1911 in 9mm would be nice, I was a big Kimber supporter, but found out the hard way (brand new Kimber that shouldn't have left the factory) that if you work on the gun yourself, hell, anyone besides Kimber working on it, you void the warranty. Want your feedramp polished? Tough sh*t if you have someone do it besides Kimber, and they'll charge you an arm and a nut for it. But, being 9mm, the feedramp should be part of the barrel. There are other companies out there who make solid 9mm 1911s though.
I'm just not a 92 person, shot them, weren't thrilled with them.

Glock......yeah........still hate them.

Gen 4 changes all of this with its back strap kit. They are awesome but they still don't do it for me.

My buddy has a gen4 17. It still feels like I'm holding a brick. Those straps improve the grip, but not by a whole lot. Not enough for them to actually feel good in the hand.

I just bought my wife a Springfield XDS 9MM and she and I both love it! I have one in .45acp and carry as a secondary weapon everyday.

That's the funny, thing, I could go no backstrap to the mid back strap and think it feels great. All comes down to preference. My brother's CCW is a Glock, always will be even though he prefers to shoot a Springfield 1911 when we are plinking around. I like them a lot, they are standard for a good reason, I just wouldn't buy one with my own money. I find the CZ line just a perfect fit.

I like the way you think. CZ is my preference too until I can afford a Sphinx. I posted my Custom Shop CZ in this thread. The base is an Accu-shadow but with an extended 4.925 inch barrel, front/rear trits, OD g10 VZ grips, and the best part: full ambi controls including slide stop. I had the shop retrofit an 85 Combat ambi slide release on the frame.

An Accu-shadow is basically a Custom Shop Shadow but with a short reset trigger and the Accu-bushing that is good for <2.5 inches at 50 yards using factory ammo.

If I was going poly, I'd go M&P. My bro has one. It actually feels great in the hand to me.

I originally had black g10 grips. I swapped them to the OD ones.

The bushing looks neat IMO.

That CZ is nicely spec'd  Did you get the extended barrel with a view to looking at a silencer or just for accuracy?

Angus does a good job!

That's really nice! :) How does the short reset feel do you like it?

i was lookin at all my guns the other day and noticed... i have no more 9mm pistols anymore. somehow be it gifting them or trading them I've run myself clean out. so now i need to do some shopping. i need a ultra compact, a medium frame and a full size. i think the new sig p938 for the little pocket 9, the sr9C for mid frame, and i dont know about full size.... Beretta 92 maybe? open to suggestion if anybody wants to throw in their two cents.

Check out the Walther pistols. I love my PPS for CC and my PPQ for full size. The PPQ has THE best trigger on a striker fired pistol out there. Awesome ergonomics and very accurate.

Don't shoot a bad guy with a 9mm, it just makes them irritable. Go .40 and up (.357 sig or mag ok as well)

Perhaps you'd volunteer as a test subject to prove that 9mm only makes folks irritable...... :)

BTW, the reality is that plenty of people have been shot by 9mm, 40 S&W, .45 ACP and all other sorts of handgun cartridges and lived to tell about it. I've yet to see someone volunteer their body to prove that 9mm is wimpy and can be easily shrugged off.....

Any projectile .17" and up can be fatal upon humans when placed properly, which is the number one factor in regards to incapacitation. Shot placement is first, penetration second, expansion/diameter third - in that order of importance. A .22 LR shot that hits the central nervous system will have a much better result than a .45 ACP to the big toe...... ;)

Do you honestly believe that an extra .10" projectile or 100 ft/lbs energy is what really matters when your life is in the balance? He who hits first/most/most accurately wins.... :)
