I hear you, but it seems like 420 is the only stainless that GEC works with. Given the right hardening it can be pretty decent.
At $7 I think this is the winner.
I'm not sure how much weight my opinion should have in this discussion because I have not participated in any of the annual knives (primarily because I have had a very limited knife budget in recent years, although I was sorely tempted by the 2014 offering). However, if you want an old pattern that is not produced anywhere today that would probably get me to pry open my wallet if offered in gabon ebony it would be a faithful reproduction of the classic cokebottle, like this one:
Barehead would be the only way to go, either one or two blades.

My mistake, thanks for the correction.They acutally use 440C stainless on their GEC branded stainless knives. In years past they made a few for Cripple Creek in 420 stainless but that was/is the rare exception for them to the best of my knowledge & recollection.
