TheFactor, Glad you finally got your cocobolo 74! Best grain contrast I've seen yet - a real beauty! I love the way they matched the covers' grain shading and grain direction on a lot of these.

TheFactor :
Have you put in your pocket yet , or are sitting around CF'n & CE'n it ????
Nice pictures my friend . You captured the natural beauty of that one very well .

I see the jigged bone photo on gec site of the stallion. It's an unusual pattern for sure. And looks like just a black or Greyish color. Different but I need better pics to decide for sure. Initial thought from me is "eh, it's ok".

Can't wait to see dealer photos once it shows up.

Agree with you on the unusual pattern comment . I would be very hard pressed to call that " Jigged Bone " . I do not dis-like it though .

Harry

"Cougar Clawed Bone"

The #74 is one of the very few knives I bought in the near past...for good reasons :)
I'd like the zulu spear blade, but prefer stainless, so I got the drop point version and I'm very happy with it.
Although, to be honest, I might send it to Glenn for a rehandle

yeeer haaarrr ! geddin thar (whipcrack).
Heres the herd as promised. Not so much a stampede as precision dressage.

.
I have however paid the penalty for being a sucker for green bone and being too far away. I pounced on the first one I saw that came up on the dealer site and I'm kind of regretting it now and wishing I'd opted for Cocobolo instead.
Not to worry -there's a lot to like about this Stallion. Slimness has been mentioned and it is perfectly centered. As always it is well built and came sharp enough for me. My only criticism is the dye job.

Did it it start life as a yellow rose and get dropped in the green by mistake?
20170125_114017_zpsvk0coftr.jpg

What on Earth happened here?
20170125_114118_001_zpsrjegfpfv.jpg

Did they farm the work off to Case for that special wishy washy effect?
Not many of these have appeared in the corral yet and I'm starting to see why.
GEC has in the past done a LOT better with green dye . Spring Onion or Sea Weed Green are more accurate names for this colour -but who would want that?
Its a user.I'm naming it Sylvester.

Meako

I have to agree with you. That's not a great dye job? Having said that, the 74 is a great knife, as you testified. Great pack of mustangs and/or stallions there!,

You may be on to something as there seems to be a large shortage of Yellow Rose's compared to the original expectation.

cheers Alan.
I also wish it had the Stallion etch but thats the Tidioute v Northfield thing. Not a deal breaker for me.
I'd like to see some more spring onions to compare.:D

Spring onions! Very funny. I've seen others that look okay, but not from the angle you took the photo. That tells the story IMO.

For my taste, I like the 74 a lot, but the release has been confusing and fragmented, I think.

The etch will fade. It's the threaded bolsters that make the north field dress for me.

Thanks very much GE Jr !! I'm super happy with the Cocobolo covers on this one no doubt and really everything about this Stallion , it's a keeper for sure [emoji106]

Thanks Harry [emoji846]
LoL it hasn't made it into my pocket yet spent last night with table duty and fondling . Was going to carry it today and ended up taking my trusty Blade forum knife . I do although have "intentions " to carry it tomorrow [emoji16]
I like it so much I don't want to carry it and I hate when that happens kind of ... it'll end up in my pocket though .
I'm really fighting the temptation to get the Ebony Stallion to lol .

Meako, your hired hands are doing a whip-crackin' good job! Gettin' that thar wild bunch rounded up and in formation can't be easy. I see they're ridin' those new fangled, genetically engineered Swayback Ranch Horses, bred to enable a cow-poke to stand upright in the saddle, making saddle soreness a thing of the past. Quality horses like that just gotta make it easier to drive them doggies. So kudos to you Sir for using the best of the best in workin' the herd. You're an inspiration to ranchers everywhere.
Do you think Sylvester might be next in line for a warm kelly green bath? geddin thar (whipcrack) :D:)

Redsparrow the idea of running ol sly through the sheepdip has occurred to me.might go check out the colur range.

TheFactor, as I scrolled thru this post, I got to this pic and whispered to myself, "Stunning". Then I saw that Drew had (accurately) used the same word and thought, "What am I gonna tell TheFactor about this wonderful knife?" The very next thing that came to mind was "Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!!!" -James

This made me actually laugh out loud! :D

My jigged Heartland arrived finally, like always it seems like my pictures were rushed and not great but oh well. The jigged bone feels great in hand and especially in person the color is beautiful. It has a lighter pull then the ebony but both are nice and pinchable. I think the 74 is now officially my favorite GEC pattern. Ticks all the boxes : )

I like the green bone with the yellow edges - looks striking to me (but my wife says I got no taste in clothes, so...)

Got a question about these Schrade Fire & Ice knives, which were made by GEC in 2007 - are these the 74 pattern as well?

DSC030012.JPG

The Schrade F&I knives were made by GEC in both the #23 and #73 patterns. They have the square and flush tangs. The #74 pattern wasn't around until 2012.

I really like the grooved northfield bone. It looks like an attempt at imitation stag to me. I was wondering why they didn't do a stag run on the 74s this time. Maybe that was their intention.
