A big Fat load of corporate BS

I was told by my boss that they're starting a no weapons policy to m" people feel safe due to the recent rise in mass shootings ".
Before they simply wanted us to be using these safety type box cutters and wearing box cutting gloves ( never seen a pair of those once as long as I've been there ), but that wasn't something that was really unforced.
To me it seems they're forgetting the people with my job who use their knife constantly throughout the day, they're only thinking of the average employee who might only have to one box during the day if at all.
I could understand if they just placed some kind of reasonable limit knowing there are those who really need more than 1/4" of kind of sharp steel, but this is ridiculous.

I'm just going to keep a small traditional in my pocket like I always do and simply leave it out of sight out of mind.
Their dumb easy cut box cutting will work enough, and if they ask me why my job is taking longer I'll tell them.
you're taking it too personally. that little box cutter deal ain't gonna slow ya down. might speed ya up.

positive attitude goes far in life, try it.

eh where I'm at they have the same policy....they give u a flimsy joke of a box cutter....everyone uses em except for me and no one bothers me about it....what they supply isn't sufficient to do the required job, it doesn't cut well, they snap in half and so on....I keep it to a utility knife, no folders or fixed blades so it can't be viewed as a "weapon" by some half wit...its ridiculous but its also a standard for many industries

Many companies have stupid policies, at my work now they require us to wear name tags while working with customers, despite the fact it's obvious violation of GDPR.

We still aren't wearing them, but they are trying hard to force it along some other stuff they do that's also a violation of law.

Years ago while in college I worked at a place that required a name tag. Another employee came up with a prank to make new nametapes and give us all nonsense names. We'd get a lot of customers looking at the tapes with sincere puzzlement but none ever said a word. The manager didn't notice for weeks. For 6 awesome weeks I was "Squeb" working alongside my coworkers "Clempsum" and "Blazile". At first we'd try to make a game of turning away from the manager but eventually realized he usually never even paid us any attention longer than it took to snap out a few orders.

.

This is the tip of the iceberg, I think.
It's an adjustment , and it's a drag, but companies have to take notice and react.
The shootings are almost routine these days. It's impact on public life has probably just begun, sadly.

Remember when you could go to a concert or sports event without getting searched? There might well be a day when you can't enter the grocery store without going through a detector first.

you think I should go to work with no knife on me even though they're not going to know It's in my pocket ?
Nope. I said nothing of the sort.

I know exactly what I'm saying, I actually carried a knife in my pocket a good deal in middle school.
Wasn't hurting anyone, and nobody knew I had it because there were no metal detectors.
Do you want a pat on the back for being so daring?

Had a knife watch and hat on me as long as I can remember and am not about to change now.
A knife watch? I've seen a victorinox that had a clock. I think it had a thermometer as well.

Look, my point in responding to you is three fold. 1) Proof read. You make more sense with less gibberish, the correct words in the right places, and proper punctuation. 2) Drop the profanity. 3) Step back and listen to how you sound.

You basically started a whine thread where you went on a poorly written profane rant about a situation that many many grownups deal with at their jobs on a regular basis.

Try to look at this with some logic and reason.

Now this is hilarious :D
I'll actually suggest this to my coworkers and see what we'll come up with :)

I think I'm done with this thread now.

I had good reason to swap this crappy safety box cutter for one of my belt knives and it sucks that I have to go back to the damn thing , I liked the idea of it but I just had too many problems and stopped using it after a month and a second replacement.
The initial reaction is over and I don't work today so I'm ready to forget about it for now.
I'm still PO'd but I'll eventually get over it, and hopefully it's not too terribly long till my situation changes and I can look for better employment.

I should have thought more clearly about my ranting, and I apologise if I bothered anyone.

I think so too. Years ago I drafted names of un-named streams on mylar topo maps to correspond to people I worked with for the fun of it. There were other names too. It was fun and eventually it was noticed and I took most of those off the original maps.

Hickory n steel Hickory n steel Don't sweat the small stuff. Just go with the flow and see how it plays out. You didn't bother me particularly with your language such as you see in some other forums, but I noticed as the Discussion Forum is mostly G rated. I know it's a rant.

lol I think he means "a knife, a watch, and a hat" :D

I don't think you've bothered anyone and it's good that you recognize that you were ranting.

Here's another thought; why not seek wisdom from Blade Forums about the best "safety" cutting tools available? You could then check some out on your own and go to the management of your company with a proposal to bring in a more effective tool?

Honestly I'm not even sure if the easy cut is " approved " , it sounds like only that blue thing is gonna be allowed.
Personally I'd rather carry one of these on a decent retractable key lanyard but don't think even this would be allowed.

That blue thing gives you even less blade than this which isn't enough for some of the boxes, one of the reasons I stopped using it.

Once you accept the company's paycheck you are also accepting their employment conditions. This is generally not negotiable unless the conditions are inherently dangerous or add risk to your role or that of your colleagues. I too can bleat on about certain things I don't like but the question I have to ask is do I still wish to receive the health salary I get paid or not. The salary buys the knives and other toys so the decision is quite easy. And yes while a supervisor may not take issue with your flouting the rules day to day, come the time you annoy them for another reason you can bet they will.

As knifenuts I think we can all sympathize with you on not being able to use a normal knife at work. But as adults, I think we can all say that if that's the first time you have had something not go your way at work you're lucky. It surely won't be the last.

I work for a graphics company in Canada. I thought they would be strict , and in the employee manual it says : ''no guns, knives, or weapons."
I lucked out though. I can carry whatever I want , pretty much the same as most anywhere in the city ; just common sense , and not like I'm gonna EDC a BK-7 or something that large.
BUT , if the comp says that's their rules , your call, your consequences.

The people handing out your paycheck decide how, what and when things are done. Deal with it or go freelance. Enjoy ! It's never simple as clear water. Never. The "knife or not" stuff is childish at best. Be happy to be employed. Seriously.

What's the name of this corporation? I do not wish to patronize their establishment any further.

Is it Wall-Mart?
I'll bet its wall mart. I have a buddy who works there. he said the same thing Hickory is saying and showed me a similar looking box cutting type tool. could be some other box store though
they all tend to follow each other like dominos.

When they outlaw knives only outlaws will have knives........and cops because cops will be exempted from the law. There's your answer, become a cop and they will let you carry a knife pulse you can carry a gun too, just blast open the boxs.
