A Flipper Sebenza IN THE FLESH, or: When Clones try something different.

It's obvious to me that without the stop pin, this manufacturer has created a perfectly intimidating hand-held blade. When the user flips the finger lever they create a freely spinning Blade O' Death! You have been warned!...;-)

Chris Reeve must have made it, it says "Made in Idaho" right on the side.......or the Chinese moved to Idaho?

The factory just changed it's name to "IDAH-O" so it's legit, right?

The thing is, there's zero culpability when it comes to trying to "go after" a company doing this over in China. The local government is the only ones who "enforce" patent disputes and they do so in cash so good luck.

Even filing a patent can be damaging (to the originator) because it basically lays out how you did what you did so it gives the competition a chance to start trying to improve/copy/go around/straight up rip off your design/idea.

I'm still not 100% completely sure the PM2 I have is in fact real because I got it off the exchange. I might never know. I won't be buying from third parties any more when it comes to certain models/companies because the counterfeits are getting so good that once a flaw is spotted, they change and adapt to make it harder to notice the difference.

I know its getting ridiculous isn't it?
I picture in my head the pirate biting on a gold coin to verify its authenticity during a transaction...... ponders ...Rockwell hardness with teeth? nooooo

Comeuppance: you are right, the flipper concept ruins the sleek aesthetics of a beautifully simple knife. to you for finding it, :thumbdn: for it existing.

While I do not appreciate or support knock off's/fakes/homages etc. I am intrigued by the idea of a CRK flipper even if it is blasphemy... ;):D

I'd rather it be an Umnumzaan (I like the design overall and the lack of a stop pin gives room for better flipper design), but I agree CRK needs some flippers.

That's some good points about second hand sales.
I keep all my receipts. Maybe including proof of purchase should become standard practice.
Also, hopefully this means I can get a better price for having all the original packaging.

The counterfeiters are already VERY GOOD at copying the packaging so that means little when trying to spot a fake. There's a whole bunch of info on all of this in the Spyderco sub-forum and elsewhere on the net which is what really made me question my purchase. At this stage I'm okay with it because I like the knife so I'm just going with "wishful thinking" about it's authenticity.

It's amazing to me with this CRK knife that they (counterfeiters) went to the trouble with the maker's mark and even "Made in Idaho" stamp when anyone familiar with CRK would immediately notice the glaring design differences.

You might be alone in that sentiment... I'm not usually one to get caught up in aesthetics, but that is one butt-ugly knife.

You've said that several times now but I'm not really seeing it. Looks kind of like a 25 with a small flipper nub to me. I kind of like it. I might buy one of CR ever makes one. :)

A flipper Sebenza is ugly, I agree...

But wait, there is more ( blasphemy )!
A Ganzo that was given to me, I'm sure you'll find it on the picture :D

Besides the whole thing about the Chinese counterfeits, I really wish this knife was produced by Ontario, love the idea of Rat 1 with AXIS lock...

I also say it's not ugly.

If chris reeve made one, I'd definetly go visit the cutlery shop to handle one.

Working in a restaurant, a flipper is very useful when wearing gloves or just slippery hands.
As much as I love my sebenza for work, a flipper makes it much more convenient.

I have 2 flippers (southards) and while easy to use at work, it's not a CRK or nearly as smooth.

Why can't they merge? Collectors can avoid it, no one has a gun to your head.
For us that might want it, make a few?

Hey, Emerson made a proto flipper that I've recently seen go on sale... I would love to see what a CRK proto flipper would go for!

I don't dislike it except for the obvious fact that it's a fake. And for a fact, if Chris ever makes a flipper, I will buy it.

Well, Chris "could" produce a mid-sized Sebbie in a flipper...and show China how it SHOULD be done...

I would love one in 3.25" the big debate is thumbstuds or no thumbstuds! I'd pay full new retail for a medium sebbie!
