A Flipper Sebenza IN THE FLESH, or: When Clones try something different.

I like to browse certain disreputable websites so I can see what there are clones of so I know what to be suspicious of on eBay and elsewhere. While I was doing my normal set of searches (spyderco, zero tolerance, titanium d2, titanium s35vn, bearing knife) I came across this and stopped dead in my tracks / mouse wheel scroll:

WHAT'S THIS?

IMPOSSIBLE, NO WAY

NO

IT CAN'T BE

GOOD LORD

IT IS

A FLIPPER SEBENZA.

(...Clone.)

And now I see why there would be such outrage if CR made a flipper Sebenza. That thing is ugly as sin.

It's an interesting sight to see - a flipper Sebenza that isn't just a crap photoshop.

Shut up and take my money!

How is it ugly, I'm not even too much into flippers and wouldn't buy a 25 flipper but cmon, the only difference is the flipper tab being there compared to a real 25.

As far as it being an abomination of fakery yeah that part is ugly. Hedious even.

The proportions are all wrong.

Maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks on me, but the clone looks to have a narrower blade that makes it look anemic. I honestly feel like it looks sickly, which is a very strange thing to think about a knife.

It may just be that the flipper doesn't "flow" with the design at all. They made seemingly no effort to make it match the lines or curves of the knife. A downward-facing tang protrusion, like you see on the Kershaw Junkyard Dog:

...would flow much more nicely. I'm not saying a flipper Sebenza is automatically ugly, but, boy oh boy, that one sure is. It really shows how aesthetically pleasing the curves of the 25 are by contrast.

I hate (I so rarely use that word) the counterfeit industry and homages are no better. Seriously, you make the whole item the same as the real item and just forgo the name of the real item. Pathetic. This clearly a fake by design, but bears a man's trademarked name. Sad. I cannot tell you how many people get duped in horology. This forum should have strong penalties for those who participate in stolen intellectual property - like banned immediately.

Let's just call what this type of product is - MIND RAPE.

I wonder if the Chinese warranty covers flipping it to kingdom come while watching naked and afraid and such.

It is not a clone it is a counterfeit .

Can you counterfeit something that doesn't exist?

Really, it's neither. It's a counterfeit but simultaneously an original design with significant modifications. It's not really a clone either, as there is no identical model to compare it to.
