A.G. Russell™ Cowboy

I'm a huge Case fan and I still think my AG Cowboy is of better quality than either of my Case Soddies.
Very strong backspring, good F+F, and super sharp.
From my experience, there aren't too many name-brand knives that just "fall apart". Could you have been drinking when this occured???

I 'm a little late to the party, but the OP's thread title really put me on the defensive before I even read the thread...

I've not often read of problems with products from A.G, but the end result is always the same. Customer gets money back, or a replacement, so that customer is happy.

Now that you have gotten a refund, AND you get to keep the second knife, I can only hope that you will have the decency to write a positive thread about A.G's customer service. Only seems fair. YMMV

Whenever I see one of these threads it just encourages me to buy another knife from A.G. because such fantastic customer service needs to be rewarded.

I have little doubt there's something in his recent catalog I really want...there always is.

Well, an A.G. Russell knife has presented me with real problems. How do I convince my wife that I need an Acies when she watched me buy a LionSteel SR 1 at the Blade Show?

Tell her I said it is an entirely different knife. No conceivable overlap in utilitarian application. It fills a real need. :)

I think a nice dinner and a movie not hurt things either.
By the way, I am going to order something from AGR, just need to search through the site a bit.

:D

I first bought from A.G. Russell sometime in the early 70's. I still buy from A.G. Russell.:thumbup:

I don't know Caine personally, but from what I do know of him from frequenting the same forums here at Bladeforums for the last few years is that he is honest and tells it how it is. Yes maybe the title is a bit harsh, but accusing the man of being a liar is even more so. He is an officer in the US Military and deserves more respect than what a few have shown here.

As always, AG Russell and Co. have shown the outstanding Customer service that has earned them their reputation.

I think most of us know the outstanding customer service A.G. Russell provides. Im sorry but I didn't sense an ounce of negativity towards A.G. Russell as a company in this thread. I got feedback that the Cowboy is garbage. Good to know IMO. Does it mean I think less of A.G. Russel? NO. I also find it odd how people get jumped on for posting problems. I can see trolls or people posting of extreme flukes, but this was two in a row. I am glad he posted this. Better then ordering one and having to experience the high level of customer service A.G. Russell provides for myself. I am all for keeping things between me and the seller, but I will tell it like it is with any knife. You don't have to like everything a dealer sells to do business with them on a continued basis.

Just my 2 cents.

Kevin

We all appreciate feedback, good or bad. However, when there are two of the same knives with issues, no pictures, and a thread title that comes across the way this one did, I think most of us assume there is more to the story.

We all want to know if there is a problem, and I'm sure A.G wants to know about it too.

I get what you and others are saying Mike, don't get me wrong. I cant imagine A.G. Russell not being extremely interested in getting to the bottom of this. If there is a flaw with the knives it will be more heartache to him then individual customers.

Again just my 2 cents,

Kevin

I can't call anyone a liar in this case. But consider that the two people involved here who have actually seen the disputed knife first hand, caine and Phil Gibbs, have very different positions about the condition and supposed usage of the knife. Based on that I would really need to see pictures of the knife exhibiting the claimed behavior before I believe it. The truth is probably where we usually find it - somewhere in the middle.

At least you get that one for free:p

I'm just kidden with ya. If I got two like that I may think it was a bad model myself. I do believe you. Sorry you had such bad luck with the two, but that thing happens in the facorty knife world at times, and much more so in the chinese knives. I've had recent problems with a couple of much more expensive factory knives. It happens.

A.G. does have great customer service, so I hope you don't give up on them because you had some bad luck with two factory knives. Maybe that means you will have a run of good luck on your next few.

interesting vid. Although Mr. Russel's customer service and great offers in the knife world are pretty legendary, I am curious about Mr. Gibbs and Mr. Russel's reaction to the vid. Can Mr. Gibbs put up a pic of the first knife that supposedly had impact damage to the spine? Mr. Canine said that he did not cause any damage to it so there seems to be a dispute about Mr. canines original issue about the knife that these are the only 2 to be returned for this issue?

Also I am another part of the "knife world" that was ignorant about Mr. Gibbs previous or current business with the knife industry. So Im not sure what importnace that is or should be but he could have mentioned in his first post he was with Mr. Russeles company or a reprenentative?

Maybe im ignorant about this kind of knife but is it normal for one without screws on the pivot to wiggle loose like that or is that too much force?

I would just about bet that AG has seen this video and they are testing knives to see if this is an issue with the line. I have done business with them for years and have experienced their hospitality in their Rogers Ar store and their superb customer service. In my opinion AG would never knowingly put a product into the market that failed like this under normal use. I am sure that this has thoroughly surprised them and they will Rectify any and all issues. To the OP, your knife is obviously not right; no question about it.

I am not a writer. Thats probaly why I came off rude. When I type I go to the point. Now that I have thought about this. There customer service is great. I just felt like it was replaced without looking at the new one. I am trying to say you might want to look at these knives closer. Sucks because I like it alot.

The only thing that bothers me about this is the accusation that the OP did anything to damage the knife. With the stated warranty A.G.Russel gives, the only reaction should have been,'We are very sorry you had any trouble, what can we do to make it right?'

I am impressed with the customer service but it would be no good to me if given reluctantly or after an accusation of misuse. It would have been fine to offer courteous advice of a model that might better serve the use of the customer but there is a fine line to be held while still giving the customer a great service experience.

With the warranty A.G.Russel gives, there will be some who take unfair advantage but that should be expected and will only be a small percentage. The whole world is looking for excellence. There is so little of it these days.I Hope A.G.Russel will be able to continue their policy without conditions or stipulations.
