Not sure if this has already been discussed, but here it goes.

I pretty much have a knife on me (or in the car) at all times, except when I wear a suit, or am in a formal environment. In the summer I tend to go with lighter, smaller blades such as the dragonfly, techno or bm 530 . With jeans, pretty much everything goes (I can do the BM Rift, PM2, Redencion 228...anything), but with dress or suit pants, not so much.
I've tried carrying various size SAKs, but just don't like the bulky feeling in my pocket. The only knife I have, that gives me no issues in such occasions is my Omega knife (not sure if it is actually made by Omega) that came with my Omega Planet Ocean. It is very slim, has two blades, a longer one and a shorter one, very sharp, solid and smooth, classy looking and not frightening to children or general public.

I want to know what kind of knives you edc when going formal, or attending family events. Pics welcome.

Boker Plus Urban Trapper with cocobolo scales is a very handy gentleman's folder. It carries pretty discreetly and the slim lines and wooden scales make it more a conversation piece than a 'scary knife'. It's also almost ridiculously lightweight and that makes it a great fit for slacks.

I like a featherweight with a clip that you can keep on the inner pocket of your suit jacket or shorts. I forget that my dragonfly is even there half the time..

I just carry a smaller SAK normally. But I am quite fond of the Spyderco Kiwi 4 that I got earlier this year when I dress up a bit.

Well, I was at my son's friend's birthday party two weeks ago, and it was time to hand out gifts. The mother of the kid had a package that was wrapped and tied with some kind of nylon string. She was using her car key trying to cut it...lol. It took me a good 20-30 seconds deciding if I should whip out my knife (as she was struggling). Luckily I had my spyderco techno and not a "scarier looking blade" so I pulled it out and cut the string. No kids were frightened or anything, but I did get some looks from a couple of parents.

On another note ,, your title made me laugh, not because it's funny,, but because I'm just like you which to most people is crazy,,, here you are going to a special event and you're thinking about what knife to take!! We're all nuts and I love it:D

Kershaw 1770 OD-2 or 3700 Kurai - both 2.5", 8Cr13MoV, light and slim

The OD2 is my Office EDC, light, fast and disappears in the pocket. Discontinued now but still available.

The Little Bird I received as a gift and is surprising well made and classy for formal wear.

It looks like your Omega knife is either a Victorinox secretary or the near identical Wenger patriot. The Wenger usually has a keyring, so it may be the Victorinox. Both are great little knives. Why not just carry that?

Benchmade 943 black - lotta knife and you and your associates won't even know it's there until you need it. Then you'll be glad you had a real knife on you.

+1 on this... Had one in my inner suit jacket pocket at my brothers wedding (in Philly) last weekend... With a small lady leg in my pants pocket.

Thanks,
this is what I carry for these special occasions, but was wondering what other options are out there.
The mnandi is beautiful but a bit on the expensive side, I am liking the the boker plus urban trapper but think it might be a tad too big.

ZT 450, Urban Trapper Ti or Microtech UDT......I usually grab the 450......love that blade!

Just thought of a knife I had years ago...Kershaw Leek! Nice and thin, might do the trick, will have to revisit that knife.

I like carrying my Al Mar Hawk (UltraLight series). I added a clip to it so I can clip it to the inside pocket of my jacket, can also double as a tie clip (can put it clip side out and it looks like a normal tie clip or if around knife nuts, it can go knife side out). Very slim knife, tends to disappear in your pocket. Don't let the AUS-8 blade fool you, Al Mar does a great job with it.

Another favorite (I think it has been discontinued) if a Benchmade BenchmiteII. I like it because the lock system is a different than most. It locks both in the open and closed position.

For less formal carry, I have a Kershaw Chill. I made some ipe scales for it so it looks more like a slippie.

You are right my friend! I have an Urban Trapper without the cocobolo scales and it carries extremely well as well as being crazy lightweight! One of my All-Time Favorites!

William Henry knives are THE quintessential dress knives AFAIC. But there are lots of others that don't cost nearly as much. One of my favorites that hasn't been mentioned yet is the Spyderco Centofante Memory:

Super sweet and recently discontinued. Get 'em while you can. :)
