A knife for a dressy/classy/family/ event UPDATE

RAT PACK #199
"If I have a day of super heroic, save the day, chop through a burning building to save orphans planned, then it doesn't matter what knife I have on me, since it's all in my head anyways." - goodeyesniper

I'm guilty of this. Hey you never know

please tell us what you decide upon-far too few folks actually do let us know. it's just kinda fun to know if you had an impact or not.

Currently considering in order of preference: Boker Plus Urban Trapper Cocobolo, Spyderco Cenoffante, Spyderco Air, Spyderco Dice/Domino, Kershaw Leek, CRK Mnandi - last place only due to being pricey, otherwise would be first.

Will do an update once I make final decision and pick one up, who knows it could be something entirely different from the list.

cheers,

Anatoly

Benchmade 943 black - lotta knife and you and your associates won't even know it's there until you need it. Then you'll be glad you had a real knife on you.

Agree. Or a 940. Both are almost weightless. Wearing a suit, carry in the side jacket pocket. It will disappear. Could even remove the clip to make it a tad thinner and lighter. As said, it's a real knife.

A second vote for Brad Zinker. Very well made and reasonably priced. Plus he's a really nice person.

Not like you haven't had enough suggestions already, but I'll throw out a couple more options.

Have you considered going custom? Mike Alsdorf makes some beautiful folders that would fit into a dressy situation very well. Here's one he made me with black-lip pearl inlays:

Jim Dunlap might be another consideration. The knife on the very bottom is linerless and weighs less than an ounce, so it disappears in your pocket:

Thank you for the suggestions.
I will give customs a consideration, but ideally would like to stay under $200.

I'll put in another vote for the Urban Trapper in the original Ti. Super slim, super light, and super classy. If you're looking for something smaller, the small Spyderco knives in Nishijin (Cricket, Spin, Dragonfly, Air) are all very classy and unobtrusive.

Don't recall seeing it in the original post but what pocket will the knife go in? I ask because I often thought about getting a small blade for the same situations. Instead of buying another knife that will sit in my drawer most of the time I decided to move my knife to my back pocket where my wallet is. It sits far enough off to the side so I don't sit on it and generally I forget it's there. I spent way too much money on my XM-18 and ZT0801 to not carry one of them every chance I get.

Though if you are set on getting a smaller knife I'd suggest a Kershaw leek. I sharpened a friends leek and it felt itty bitty in my hand.

I am now also considering "case" traditional gentleman's knives.
I got lots of work to do, so many options...

You could duplicate this for $30.00 clip inclusive. I wear this in a suit jacket breast pocket all the time. Looks for all the world like a pen.

For occasions where I wear slacks, I carry either (or both) a Vic Classic in alox or the Vic Cadet, also alox. Both are thin, low profile, and socially acceptible if seen by non-knife people. As are small traditionals in general.

Moderns are a whole lot more problematic for the general public, especially if you (don't ever do this unless you're prepared for a negative response) flick them open. Thanks to Hollywood and TV, flicking a knife open in public is universal video-speak for "homicidal thug with a weapon" — and nothing you can say or do will erase, prevent, or overcome this cultural perception.

I have several SAKs, but like to get something nicer looking. I am leaning towards a traditional such as "Case" or "Northwoods" now.
