A knife for a dressy/classy/family/ event UPDATE

For family events I carry whatever I want. For the formal occassions I would carry the following:

Chris Reeve Mnandi

Great Eastern Cutlery 48 ~ Mike Latham (Collectorknives.net) SFO
Arno Bernard Fixed Blades

Leatherman Skeletool CX.

Recycled pic, so ignore the fixed blade.

The Skeletool includes some tool kit options without weighing down the pockets of light slacks too much. The carbon fiber adds a touch of class, and the fact that it's a multitool with a blade completely short-circuits the reaction from NKP's.

I like the Victorinox Manager or Midnight Manager, for a small pocket tool.

The Midnight Manager was spotted by my wife and she just put it on her keyring and sailed out the front door with a happy smile.

I had to buy a new one...

Mikael

the leek works great, clipped or clip-less, and they have a few models in elmax now if that's to your taste. the 14c28n sharpens easily and well (really sharp with little effort) imho. i have simply removed the clip from my emerson knives in the past and found that the slim profile is very discreet. copperlocks are nice as well, including the minis.they also don't fly open so fast as some i've mentioned:). sometimes a stockman fits the bill nicely-three whole blades in one package. OP i'm wondering if you have a price point in mind or if this is a more hypothetical question? a moose pattern might be right or you could check out the new boker tech offerings. oh and arno bernard(KBA shows pics of same above) and l.t. wright make great small fixed blades. sorry too much coffee:D

I typically like to carry small (3" and under) and light (3.5 oz and under) if its formal since it doesn't look good when you got something weighing that much when you have dress slacks on. At the same time style and look is also a factor if your all dressed to impress and you pull out a plastic handled knife, just doesn't feel/look right.
Few that come to mind are:

Priced High to low...
CF Small Sebenza
Spyderco Memory Centofonte
Spyderco Chaparral Carbon Fiber
Kershaw Carbon Skyline

Can not recommend Brad Zinker knives enough. Reasonably priced considering they are full customs. Come in many different styles and sizes, and not to hard to find. (The urban trapper is designed by him). You can kind of think of them as William Henry's with a flipper.:D

How about the CRKT Ripple - very elegant.

Not sure if this has already been discussed, but here it goes.

I pretty much have a knife on me (or in the car) at all times, except when I wear a suit, or am in a formal environment. In the summer I tend to go with lighter, smaller blades such as the dragonfly, techno or bm 530 . With jeans, pretty much everything goes (I can do the BM Rift, PM2, Redencion 228...anything), but with dress or suit pants, not so much.
I've tried carrying various size SAKs, but just don't like the bulky feeling in my pocket. The only knife I have, that gives me no issues in such occasions is my Omega knife (not sure if it is actually made by Omega) that came with my Omega Planet Ocean. It is very slim, has two blades, a longer one and a shorter one, very sharp, solid and smooth, classy looking and not frightening to children or general public.

I want to know what kind of knives you edc when going formal, or attending family events. Pics welcome.

I got two knives from Santa Fe Stoneworks last year as a gift.. I don't even know if they can spread peanut butter but they would be perfect for a dressy occasion.

This Sanrenmu 7030LUC makes for an excellent dress accessory:

There's also a variant of the 7030LUC with a gold trim around the perimeter of the handle for those who prefer something a little more gaudy or flashy. Me, i'll stick with the plain 7030LUC.

If I'm going someplace that really is a "dressy" setting (which is rare), I just take the small Box Elder Sebenza that I always carry (second from top in the pic). Any other time, I add a small FB or an Emerson of some sort.

For events like that I carry a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 with G10 Scales. It appears harmless to those that don't like knives yet it does pretty much everything I could ask of it in those situations.

I own an alox rambler and Mnandi for these events, but these days, I usually end up leaving the knives at home and deciding which watch to wear!

That looks like a Victorinox Pocket Pal or Secretary with promotional markings to me!

Try on a BM 531 or 707 with a deep carry clip, the 531 is super light and much classier in appearance than the 530.

Hint: Not the one the one on the bottom!!

I bought the TTF just for this sort of thing.....
