So, this local guy says he's selling his hunting knife collection all made of "surgical steel". I don't know what to think, any opinions? below is a sampling of the photos he sent me. He's offering them to me for around $80 each.

I'm guessing that they are chinese made junk, but I can't blow up and read that symbol so I don't know for sure.

Good point Rev.

Personally, I like the blade shapes, especially the trail point one. If you really want them, offer a price you are willing to pay. If they accept, great. If not, then walk.

That's what I thought, but I was hoping someone would recognize that symbol and shed some light on who made these?

The symbol is not focused enough to tell. You need to take a better picture of that area of the knife., instad of trying to take a picture of the entire thing. The pictures give a great overall view, but the ricasso stamp sucks.

I like them knives according photographs, "Surgical steel is code for garbage " I wouldn't be too sure of this, as genuine surgical steel is definitely not anything close to garbage.... Hospitals and surgeons doesn't use garbage steel, when these blades are cutting human body in order to save it's life....

Pictures however can not do good justice to us,you have access to blades, why not try them before the purchase...

No quick judgment is worth any judgment...if he is genuine guy, he will let you use at least one of them on wood....try re-sharpening, maybe it is worth it.Knives are looking good, but that's not something anyone can say based on pictures what the knife is made of....

Maybe it is garbage, but maybe they will last forever in your service and you may never regret the purchase.

Too many guys judging too quickly here is my opinion...

No. No. No. With all due respect, it may be time to read more, actually use some knives, and post less.

with all due respect, I don't think surgical steel means garbage. If someone isn't a knife guy (and chances are he is just some hunter, not a knife guy right?), then they will remember surgical grade steel a hell of a lot better than some number letter combination like it often is. I don't think you can dismiss it on that alone. $80 dollars though... seems too low to be valuable and too high to be a fair price for a cheapy.

That said, I don't know jack about knives. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure I've seen those exact same knives somewhere on the net and as others have said they were cheap 40 dollar knives.

Surgical steel is exactly garbage... Scalpels gets used once and thrown away...
Do you really want a knife made out of something that won't take a new edge?
