A Midsummer Night's Snark

I've noticed a recent surge around these parts to buy as many Beckers in as short a time as possible. You know "need" isn't an issue because if someone's lived their life this long with zero Beckers, they probably don't need a dozen this month. I'm not sure if that's just new guys trying to buy acceptance or if it's the desire to own a collection of something. You can buy all the regular model Beckers for around $1000 which is much cheaper than, say, a classic car collection, so I get the appeal.

I'm not digging on serious collectors or people buying tools that they're actually going to use and still be using a year from now. But I get the feeling that some of this has more to do with wanting to be in "The Becker Club" than the knives.

There's getting bitten by the Becker Bug (which I can relate to), and then there's this, which feels more like hipsters buying up all the Pappy Van Winkle and saying it's the best bourbon ever when they just had their first bourbon last week.

Or maybe I'm just pissy today. Yeah, probably that.

While I'm voicing my complaints, let me add this: Why can't people just use the search function before starting new threads asking the same question over and over again? And how are so many of you so nice when it keeps happening?

Young people! :grumpy: Stay off my lawn! :grumpy: (shakes fist ... then goes and does the same things he's just complained about) :D

Hipsters. :D

I just think it's a pretty good bunch of folks and fun place to hang out. Hit a few gatherings and share a fire, a meal and a few beers and it starts to have a family feel to it. It's all good.

Yup, I am guilty of buying more than one Becker in less than a month, but to be fair I didn't even know there was a club until after I got the BK9 and went searching for a community for such an awesome blade. Once I got here, the very friendly atmosphere led to easily justifying buying a couple of the Beckers getting discontinued (the 5 and 15 were clear choices as the next purchase) plus I was looking for a good medium-sized EDC fixed blade and the BK15 was a great choice regardless of its price. After that I managed to last a bit without thinking I needed another Becker, but after looking at prices for the BK16 (too expensive still) I found the BK4 at a price that justified at least getting it to test it out if nothing more. After finding the BK14 at a great price, and needing some variety to my neck knife collection, I decided to get it; to get cheap shipping I needed to add more to the order and I figured why not at least have a chance to hold the BK2, if I didn't like it I can always sell it here on the exchange.

I admit, the BK3 was an impluse buy, but like before if I don't like it I can always sell it on the exchange here.

Being perfectly honest, if the people in this subforum weren't so darn enthusiastic about the Beckers they own, I probably wouldn't've gotten into buying more than 1 or 2 Beckers, but since you all are so happy with your Beckers, it really made it very easy to justify a couple more purchases based on the fact that, if all of you are unequivocally happy about your Beckers, they can't be that bad.

Plus, now that my funds are used up on Beckers, I won't spend more of them on the custom fixed blades I see in the exchange, so overall Becker is saving me money buy having reasonable prices.

(edit: I have more than 100 posts here, and 5 threads started, but my threads are crap so I feel no right to joining any Beckerheads club just yet, quantity != quality. Eventually I might feel like a Beckerhead, but for now I'm content just chilling with all the cool ones already here on the subforum)

Just for the record, my complaining wasn't directed at anyone in particular. It's just a reflection of my frustration at not having as many Beckers as I want or the lifestyle in which I get to use them as much as I'd like.

I gotta get out of LA for a while and back to Texas.

Rofl.. Insert the 'haters got to hate meme' of Ethan and JT here :D

Ill admit being an adult and having other financial responsibility's get in the way of my knife purchases. But im still young (compared yo most of you :P) so I got time!

Ya know what I hate is when a new guy joins to ask one question (and you can tell the ones who aren't coming back from the ones who will stick around) and instead of even looking they post in the very first subforum at the top of the page. Car forums are especially bad for this.

I used to ask the dumb questions. But now I use the search function a lot. However, when I search, I search for members. I do this so I can be up to date on the latest dumb shit you guys are saying.

Just kidding

But really, don't ever search, "I just got" what a quagmire that is. Lol

I use the search bar before I ever post, usually the question I have hasn't been asked in the same way before, or else it's a very old post that doesn't really need to be necro-ed.

But when one of the requirements to join the super-special Beckerhead club is to have 5 threads in the Becker subforum, folks are less likely to bump old threads if it means losing a chance to further their quest to attain exclusive membership.

You forgot the other 'super' in front of super-special.

If we were just super-special it wouldn't be so easy to get in ;)

Snark!

I mean, come on now... they even let ME in hah.

I'm in the same boat. I can periodically afford some cool things, but the cooler it is, the longer I have to wait to get the next cool thing. In the interim I can afford the less cool things, but never when it's available. I always have to wait. I missed out on a Farm and Field #99 Farmer's Lock in maroon micarta because my wife had just gotten me a Spyderco DB for our anniversary. Now they are no where to be found, at least not new. Anyway.....I feel you dawg. lol

If your wife gets you anything you really love as a gift, especially something sharp, then we are most definitely NOT in the same boat ;). Maybe the same flotilla......

How's it going?

So far, it has not been too bad of an evening here....

Anybody watching 'Forged in Fire'?

I could do without the made for TV drama and just watch the guys do their thing.

So, Bill Harsey just posted up a video on Facebook... If I make it to Shot Show I think I need to do this.

Wow. Cool. They've got a real buttoned-up operation in Vegas. The only zip-lining I've done was at an unlicensed place in the middle of the Mexican desert. Not nearly as nice, but the thrill of danger was pretty darn real.
