I've seen the pics circulating just now, I'm sure they'll be up here shortly..its a winner IMO!
I wont post them because they're not mine, and dont really feel like I have the permission to, but it's a great looking design as I assumed it would be! Hey..what else would you expect from CRK..Nothing but the best!

biggerjon, I've got 2 of them now. Ya want one? :D

I'll trade ya both of them for one NEW CRK !!! -- sight unseen! Whatever it is!

I'll take it!

Bigger pivot, nice blade shape/handle. Added simplicity, redefined with a modern touch.

What does the backside look like? Standard clip or no?

It's hard to tell against that background, but I see a lot of the old "regular" Sebenza in the handle, as well as some Harsey in handle and blade. This is the big military folder some people thought he might come up with -- but it's a CRK big military Sebenza, not a Harsey. I am pleased he named it after me. :p

In all seriousness, this is a great addition to the line-up.
Thank you, RL. Thank you, Neil. It has been worth the wait.

you're welcome

great specs...love the integrated glass breaker...and the way the detent keeps the blade closed...from the description it sounds chock full of technology

It is indeed a busy time here in Atlanta! I wanted to post some images of the Umnumzaan, Zulu for "Boss, Mister, Sir".

For size comparison, I've included in the shot my EDC, a large regular Sebenza.

The Umnumzaan is a very stout folder, with a very commanding presence. Chris has implemented several innovative features in this knife:
  • A ceramic ball does double duty
    • When the blade is deployed, the ball serves as the point of contact between the lock bar and the back of the blade during lock up.
    • When the knife is in the folded state, the ball mates with the detent in the blade to hold it closed.
  • Large thrust washers have perforations, reducing the effective surface area of the washer for lower friction, while creating maximum mechanical advantage for side-side support. The perforations carry lubrication, making for longer use between cleanings.
  • Polyurethane O-rings on the thumblugs / stop pins act as shock absorbers to cushion the impact of the blade on the frame when opening. This cushioning also makes for very quiet opening. The shock absorber concept was originally developed by Grant and Gavin Hawk of Idaho City, ID.

BTW, the protrusion on the back of the blade does not serve as a flipping function; it's a glass breaker feature. You'll also notice that in the top view image that the blade is thickness is greater than that of the Sebenza.

Enough for now -- time for some sleep. It will be a busy couple of days here at Blade. If you're in attendance, please come by and say hi to Chris, Anne, and me, and check out the Umnumzaan, and other way cool knives that the team has put together for the show!

I love the blade shape and the scales but was hoping for a mid-size, in between a large and small Sebby (legal limit in Colorado is 3.5")

Lots of good innovations here. Interesting technology. I wonder if we might see a small version in the works someday, or the elusive wharnecliff, perhaps?

Meanwhile, CRK has done very well lately, with the big fixed blades, and the small fixed blades, Inyoni and Professional Soldier. It was time for a folder! :D

A small would be nice. I wonder if that O-ring is going put a little squish in the lock up.

If this is replacing the regular I'm assuming that there will be no inlay option....sound about right?

I bet the lockup is rock solid and remains that way. The cushion will cushion the opening hit, but between the thumblug/stop pins and the ceramic ball interface, there won't be any squish. :)

It's not really replacing it, it's a new design with a lot of new tweaks, but I think it looks more like the regular Sebbie than the classic, so one of them might as well have been retired to make room for this.

As I understand it, the regular Sebenza will still be available in special editions. Consequently, it may be a while before the Umnumzaan gets inlays and special graphics.
