I choose the name Outcast, because the layoff happened so quickly, that I filled out my paperwork and was out the door in under 45mins. It felt like I was *cast out* of the factory. We were not even allowed to talk to anybody, or say goodbye to friends, out the door we all went.
As far as my stash, I sold most of my custom stuff right after I lost my job just to survive. The guys in the custom shop were my friends and hunting buddies, Leroy Remer, Bob Miller, Jaun, Wilde Bill Cody. Such incredible craftsman everyone of them. I wish I still had those knives. Ya see, I worked in the Buck Knives warehouse, so I probably touched parts of every model made during those 10yrs. so I saw plenty of knives at work, and didn't collect that many. The warehouse was responsible for delivering all the Bayonets to *Fragile handle with care* to be packaged and sent to the Military. There were many a day that I left the dock ( I drove the company bobtail) with 8 pallets filled 6 feet high with bayonets. I don't remember how many it actually was, but it was a lot. I even went to phrobis when we lost the contract and brought back all the tooling and a mess of their modular knives, I don't remember what they were called but I have seen a few for sale over the years and they command a high price. There we boxes and boxes of parts for those things, and lots of bayonet parts. It was a sad day when we lost that contract. It is so hard to put 10yrs. worth of memories here, but it was a fantastic ride and I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks Buck Knives for all the memories.
Is there any other employes for that time period on this message board?
Outcast.
