A Sad day at Buck Knives

Case went after the female market with all the "pretty" colors.

Saw a lot of ladies pawing over the Case display at the last gun show.

And in addition to the plethora of changes in handle materials and colors, they tend to issue a commemorative for just about every event that happens.

Well, I suspect there were a huge number of Case collectors from way back, so Case has a large and loyal base.

Most of the old timers probably don't buy the current cheap, shiny baubles that Case is now pimping, but some do.......and a lot of new collectors do.

Case knives remind me of something you'd toss into an aquarium to pretty up the rocks at the bottom.....colorful, but lightly built and basically decorative.

Myself, I wouldn't buy that crap. I notice that their big, cheap, ugly knives are all like $150 and up and I can still find good, solid Buck 120s for $60 to $70 on the Web.

Case also allows themselves to be sold on Cutlerycorner and other shows.
People can argue the value of those arrangements on a brand reputation, but it equals higher overall sales.

Guess we need to be careful what we write here......who knows where it will turn up?
......Roc...we have people lookin' in here from time to time that I'd bet we wouldn't even want to know about...That's the perpetual nature of the internet...:):eek:

Buckaholic - thanks for the link, that explains a few things. I've been buying a Case knife every once in a while, just to support them. I think I'll switch over to buying a Buck occasionally and send a little "stimulus revenue" their way, paltry as it may be. :o

The nice thing about Buck is you can buy one, take it home, take it out of the box, and it's EXACTLY what you wanted, quality and all, and it's the same as the one you bought five years ago, or fifteen years ago.

+1 on Rocinante's comment; I think the best way to describe Case today is "knife pimping". Sorry if I step on anybody's feelings with that comment.

With Case, I find I'm having to look at them now before buying them, because of some of the recurring flaws I'm seeing. And I'm not picky, either, I just keep running into issues with Case quality control: overpolishing, scales shrinking from bolsters, loose scales, etc. And I'm really having a hard time with Case's "dedication to collectors" as well. I understand why people collect them, I have a bunch myself, but come on - how many John Deere Tractor commemoratives do we need, and in how many shades of green and yellow? And I'm really tired of waiting months or years to get a pattern I want with CV blades. I buy more of other brands because of that.

thx - cpr

ALRIGHT..... WHO'S THIS BRIAN WALKER? THAT WROTE THE ARTICLE..

Looks to me like he has been spending time on here too.

Do we have plenty of tar and feathers?

It would be more efficient to do him and Vissy together.

Maybe at that BCCI doings......they could be invited out for a special award?

Guys, as a suggestion, Lets keep all of this in the Custom Shop post that Joe started, and last posted in.

Mainly for readability by the powers that be and it all being in one place.

We might also quit drifting that thread so bad, ie the Case stuff.

Thats good stuff but may need to be a thread of it's own, even tho it has been related.

just a suggestion....thanks

hay want me to shiff brian walker out?:D:D:D
me thinks he may be related to luke..

i could tap in and use the force to ask him? :D ;)..

Ask him what?
He did us a favor by doing that article. Certainly more info than I got from anyone at Buck.

did y'all scroll all the way down past the article to the readers comments?

Yep, I liked the one about the sign asking for food or something cuz "my husband works at Buck". Seems like some ticked off folks. Bitch about Calif but happy to have the tax revenue until something bad happens then it's all because of the Californians. Employment is a commodity...if people work for slave labor wages, as comments suggest, then shame on them...employers pay what the market has...that is why my frickin' job is going to India. But ya don't see me bashing. I'll get another job...keep myself trained and educated...your skills are a commodity and are just that, "yours". We're all whores.

Oh, sorry Larry...I can't write in this thread anymore...someone named "Pack Rat" doesn't want it cluttered ;)
