A simply stunning knife (moved here from the Custom forum)

Gentlebeings, let's try to stay somewhere in the general vicinity of the topic....

Well perhaps I'll start a fresh one in Whine & Cheese. I am tired of exercising enormous restraint.

ECCKS was great. Scorecard: Bought two, sold four. Had dinner with several of the usual suspects.

I saw a few Strider folders which looked pretty good. However I did not see any fixed blade TCS models. ;)

P

Didyou score anything from Don Hanson? He said he was going to have some big fixed blades there for the REAL man collectors..........just kidding, folder guys.......no flaming required......lol:p

I really hope that there aren't people on this forum that have a problem with other members stating their honest opinion of a knife. Though there are definitely good and bad ways to state that opinion, I think that saying you like something when you don't is lying. I also don't believe in that old saying, "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.". Sometimes a not nice comment is the appropriate one.

Keith,

That is exactly what people are saying.

They are saying "Don't make jokes about knifemakers or knives".

They are saying "I don't think you are showing me or my favorite knifemakers respect, so I am going to attack you".

THEY ARE saying "If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."

They are saying "you shouldn't say that on the internet, save it for face to face".

They are saying "if you have negative comments, stifle them, unless we approve".

No damned sense of humor, no ability to not get wound up in something or see it for what it is.

Neil is just about the only one who was righteously irritated, and he handled himself just fine, being the gentleman.

FWIW, boys and girls, the only person that ever got me to change my tune on the Forums was Burt Foster, and he did it by shaming me, very effectively, in his usual low key and humble manner, by making sense. ANYONE that has met me(and there are a lot of you) knows that I can be just as offensive, obnoxious and coarse in person as I am on the web. The one thing that I CAN'T do on the web is smoke cigarettes like a chimney, so there is the smells and sights that go along with that.

It is not a witch hunt over here in this thread by the principals involved, it is not a conspiracy on our parts, and we were having fun, and I don't feel the need to apologize to anyone over it, already cleared the air with Neil, and let Josh at Strider know that it was a goof.

Now it's tainted....great......I'm hoping that I can contribute back to all of you in the same way someday, just to be balanced and fair, sharing the "love" as it were. Peter was not kidding about exercising restraint, BTW, and neither am I.

Thanks for playing.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Though there are definitely good and bad ways to state that opinion.

yes that point has been made...quite a difference between constructive criticism and juvenile comments.

also hard to accept "criticism" when it may be tied to an agenda, for example, say, negative comments about the same knifemaker in another thread

also hard to accept criticism when it is peppered with totally unrelated negative comments about, say for example, "other forums"

I think that saying you like something when you don't is lying. .

which is how this thread started...but i guess lying is ok when it is a "joke" and a "goof"

RL

RL, if you would like to take your hurt feelings over to Whine and Cheese, I'll be your huckleberry.

(Exercising rediculous amounts of restraint)

P

hey if it helps you to keep justifying your actions with my "hurt feelings" and "sensitivity" and "inability to take a joke" then keep going with it.

I had no agenda, Peter had no agenda except for having a good adolescent laugh, publicly, sharing with like minds.

There is no justification, at this point, we are just enjoying your feeble protestations, and lack of point.

If you have specific issues with specific people for specific things, than say what is on your mind.

Maybe you should walk it off, it must sting!!

(P.S)How did we lie?

I thought Steven showed tremendous restraint.;)

Let me clear something up. My OPINIONS regarding this knife were exclusively my own and relate to
A. Aesthetics, which is a VERY subjective and personal opinion and
B. Perceived value for the money, which is also somewhat subjective.
From what I have seen read and been told, Strider makes a tough knife out of quality materials at least as far as durability and performance are concerned. Do I think that they are pretty? Not even close. Do I think that they fit my ideal of what a rough use combat knife should look like? Once again, no. If I had to pick one of the popular "hardcore" mid-tech brands, it would probably be one from the Busse/Swamp Rat family. Of the favtory knives, my favorite is Bark River. FYI, I think some of the MOD knives are Frost products using better steel. To me, they have some features that hinder their function, which I will admit Strider's don't have other than the paracord handle, which I dislike in general, regardless of who made the knife. I don't like the look of a lot of the TOPS knives either. Do people swear by Strider knives? Absolutely. Would many of these people not be caught dead carrying a knife in the field made from my preferred carbon steel and hardwood? Without a doubt. The other thread aside, this was a commentary on our opinion of this knife both on it's appearance and at the price point. I got a couple of not so complimentary responses when i posted the pic of my new Moran. Steven may have been one of them and, in response, I may have accused him of secretly buying bladed "collectables" late at night on HSN....my brain is fried after these last two mega-threads and i can't remember....lol. Those folks are entitled to their opinion just as we are and I, like the new owner of this Strider, am delighted to have imy knife no matter what anyone says. For those who were offended by our humor, remember. This is a KNIFE, not your sainted mother, significant other or child we are talking about. The knife was NOToffended in the least by our comments, so why should you be?:D This is how we are. Peter is a collector snob, Steven is the kind of guy who farts in front of his grandmother, and me.......well, I am equally comfortable in both of those worlds.........remember that when you read out stuff and take it with a POUND of salt......lol

Peter is a bit of a collector snob, but so am I, maybe even snobbier, 'cause he is a newb.

Don't think I ever farted in front of my grandmother, G_d rest her soul, but for sure have done it in front of my aunt, delicately lifting a cheek to avoid self-levitation(also allows the aroma to bloom). This was immediately after the 1994 Rhode Island custom knife show(knife content) and she threatened to throw me out of her house.

Farts ARE funny!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Now, I don't care who you are.... THAT'S FUNNY!

And for the record, I would fart in front of MY Grandmother... she farts in front of me.:D

Yeah...i suspected that there actually was a female relative who had been aromatically assaulted and offended:D

Yes, but that was probably the grandma meds talking. I'm talking about flatulence purely for entertainment purposes:p

I went through this whole mess of a thread to count personal attacks on Mick, vs the original topic of discussion, the SKI Leonidas.

There were 7, out of 310+ posts, none of them were floated by ptgdvc, or myself.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Were there more personal attacks on us or Mick, Steven? lol

great...now go back and count your attacks on other forums and other members...then go to the 1500+ post strider thread and start counting again.

AFAIK, this thread never had anything to do with the other Strider thread....

Mr. L.,

I went after you, after submitting that you had stepped over the line in a personal manner, and offering a branch dipped in olive oil, which you swatted away.

If you want to carefully review the over 1,000 posts in the other thread, you will come to the same educated conclusion as people who have WAY more reason to despise me than you do; that I was quite neutral, participated minimally(no dogpiling), and posted pro Mick/SKI at the end.

I impugned no specific other forum, just that you might be happier, and less troubled, elsewhere.

Look, this is really getting tiresome. We have been all 'round the world, there is nothing new to say.

Get your last digs in, I will STFU, and after you have had your say, I suggest you do the same.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson
